Seller's comments about 1929' Austin 12/4 Burnham Saloon
1929 Austin Burnham heavy 12/ 4 saloon for sale. I purchased the car in 1961. I'm virtually the second owner as the previous owner only had it a few months. The car was built in 1929 incorporating some changes ready for the 1930's market. I have the original handbooks that came with the car.
The engine has recently been completely restored and with all the component parts - magneto, carburetor, autovac and clutch overhaul. The car is presently being run in. The bodywork, fabric roof chassis and the artillery wheels are all in good condition along with paintwork - (maroon and black) - the top half still the original black - the lower maroon excellent - apart from the front end where some speckling occurred through a short temporary damp storage.
The interior of the car has been substantially left as the day it was made, apart for minor repairs to the brown leather seats. Some original carpets remain. The car is equipped with many period attachments e. g. Brexton luggage trunk at rear - roof luggage rack with period cases, original trafficators - but also - small front and rear indicator light's discreetly placed - and period taxi signs fitted to the front windscreen.
The car has attended many rallies in the 60 years I have owned it - always reliable and complied with the Austin adverts of the time - 'built for the owner’s lifetime'. Another lifetime of ownership is waiting for someone! The car has appeared in one TV film, Ruth Rendell Mysteries – The Orchard Walls.
This car will ideally suit anybody involved with hiring period cars for weddings, special events, film hire, etc.
For sale at £21, 500 - as all major restoration work is now complete
I have many spares and bric-a-brac that can be discussed, and some can be included.
The car is in Eastbourne. Please contact me for further information and/ or additional photos.
