Exhibiting the honest, workmanlike proportions synonymous with Austin’s commercial vehicles of the period, it retains a strong sense of originality and visual appeal.Of particular note is the fitment of an MG-sourced engine in place of the original unit, affording improved performance and enhanced drivability while remaining in keeping with the vehicle’s period character. This well-judged upgrade offers a subtle but worthwhile increase in usability, making the vehicle more suited to modern road conditions.At the same time (June 2010) new bearings were fitted, rings and valves ground in, and new gasket fitted.Although showing 1257 miles it has been noted that it had a new speedo and odometer were fitted when the current vendor restored the vehicle.The pick-up would lend itself equally well to light practical duties, promotional or display use, or inclusion within a collection of historic commercial vehicles.Examples of this type are now seldom encountered on the market, particularly those combining such charm with sympathetic mechanical enhancement.
