Seller's comments about 1936' Austin Austin 7 7 Nippy

1936 Austin 7 Nippy
Reg. no. SN 7340
Chassis no. 245335
Engine no. M246044
The 7 was introduced in 1922, as Austin realised its previous one-model policy was not going to work. Although they had sold a single-cylinder car, actually made by Swift and also called the 7, before the First World War, Austin’s background consisted almost entirely of large cars, and the proposed new model met with such resistance from the board that Herbert Austin, whose idea the car was, personally financed much of the project. This decision was vindicated as, after a disappointing first year in which only 2,500 7s were sold, the car went on to sell nearly 300,000 in a 17-year production run. Over 30 different body styles were offered during its life, but the 747 cc engine remained throughout.
This 1936 Nippy has been in the same family for 50 years, although it has been off the road since 1972, when the body and engine were removed to allow the chassis to be checked and painted. It then remained in dry storage until last year, when it was recommissioned, including reconditioning the carburettor, five new tyres were fitted in addition to new headlamps. It is now said to be running well and in good overall condition, although a few small jobs still need doing for example, the hood has a tear and will also need refitting. It comes with a V5, some bills and a selection of old tax discs.

This and 60 other classic cars will be sold at auction, on March 4th at Allington, Chippenham, Wiltshire SN14 6LJ
