Seller's comments about 1958' Austin-Healey Sprite
This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Classic Sale at the Practical Classics Classic Car and Restoration Show 2026 on Saturday the 21st of March - Sunday the 22nd of March, NEC, Birmingham, B40 1NT. The Austin-Healey Sprite, affectionately known as the ‘Frogeye’, was introduced to the world by BMC in Monaco two days after the conclusion of the 1958 Monaco Grand Prix The 1958 example we see here is believed to have been delivered new to West Germany where it continued to be used until the 1970s when it was then laid up Repatriated to the UK at some point, our vendor acquired the Sprite in 2023 and set about the task of returning this ‘Frogeye’ to it’s former glory The engine and gearbox - reportedly the original units - were fully rebuilt by him in preparation to be returned to a, then, hopefully restored body. Unfortunately he suffered a stroke during the restoration process which then, understandably, stalled After bravely concluding that the Sprite would be best offered to another enthusiast to complete the works, he has kindly elected to donate the proceeds of Sprite’s sale to The Stroke Association Now re-assembled with rebuilt running gear and awaiting cosmetics, the car is being sold without reserve, offering a unique opportunity for a fulfilling restoration project that will also benefit a very worthwhile charity
