Seller's comments about 1961' Austin-Healey Sprite
In May 1958 BMC made a highly immodest announcement, 'today the Austin Motor Company makes motoring history with the announcement of a completely new small and inexpensive sports car'. The 'Frogeye Sprite' promised full performance but was small enough for a young man to keep in his Dad's bike shed. At the same moment an advertising film featuring the late great Roy Salvadori and up an coming sports commentator John Bolster at the home of British Motor Sport, Silverstone, had thousands of potential customers reaching for their cheque books, cravats and flat caps. The Austin Healey Sprite we offer here was first registered in April 1961 and is one of the last Frogeye Sprites off the Abingdon production line. After many years in storage the last owner embarked on a full ground up restoration which was completed in c 2005 and has covered no more than 1000 miles since. Most of the work was carried out by a well known professional restorer and was built to exact factory specification with it's original 948cc engine and drum brakes. The ample history file contains a detailed photographic record of the restoration.Ready to enjoy on one those runs to the pub on a Sunday morning.Part exchange welcome, ancient or modern, funds either way.
