Seller's comments about 1989' Austin Maestro

This is quite possibly a very unique and unrepeatable opportunity to aquire what must be one of the very best unrestored, untouched and unmolested Austin Maestros that has come to market for a very long time.

First registered on the 1st January 1989, this remarkable car has covered just 5351 miles since new and has been cherished by its one and only registered keeper. Evidently garaged since brand new and never subjected to a British winter, this example has been used very sparingly, yet it has been maintained on a regular basis and never been allowed to deteriorate or suffer from long periods of incorrect storage.

Finished in Oyster beige over Tempest grey, the originality of this car is just sensational. Every panel is factory fit, all the paintwork is what was applied on the production line and still retains a very deep and consistent shine... the typical 1980s 'orange peel' effect is evident and just delightful to see. It has never been touched or messed with apart from a couple of very small and well touched in stone chips. The wheel arches are perfect and factory spot welds can be seen on the lip underneath. They are free from any corrosion and look as new. The door bottoms are again perfect, and factory spot welds are again clearly visible on the chassis rails. Take a close look at the photos and look at the boot floor, the back panel. tailgate and hinges, inner wheel arches etc... it is just truly incredible to see one of these in this untouched, yet 'as new' condition. Look down the sides of the car and the panels are arrow straight, free from any filler or paint rectification.

The factory fitted tinted glass is unmarked, all lights and indicators are clear and damage free. Weather strips and rubbers are still nice and supple and free from damage or cracking. The plastic bumper black inserts have faded in places, but this just confirms the cars originality. Supplying dealer number plates front and rear, tax disc holder and dealer key fob are still present and in good condition. The silver plastic front grille has very slight flaking. The rubber door seals have still got the factory applied stickers of red and blue clearly visible and still vivid and bright.

Internally, the car is pretty close to new, with only a slight sagging of the head lining detracting from a showroom fresh finish. The seats are just incredible, showing absolutely zero wear both front and rear. All plastics are unmarked and scuff free. The carpet is perfect and over mats have been fitted since new. The original Phillips radio cassette is still present. The steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake cover display the factory grain...just as you would expect from a car that has covered a genuine 5351 miles. The door cards are as new and free from any scuff or scratches. The boot carpet is perfect and is stain or mark free. We can say it many times, but this car really does need to be seen to fully appreciate it's original condition.

The factory steel wheels are covered with the correct and original wheel trims. Three are pretty much perfect, the near side front has got some scuff marks. The original Dunlop tyres are still fitted at the rear...the two original front tyres have been replaced due to slight cracking on the side walls... the original ones are with the car and will be supplied for show purposes only. The unused, Dunlop spare tyre sits in the immaculate spare wheel well and it still retains the green lines down the middle of the tyre. The jack and wheel brace etc... have never been used.

The car drives as you would expect. If you are looking at this advert and have read so much already, then we are very sure that you know what these cars were. It's no Rolls Royce by any means. It starts first turn of the key and the manual choke is in perfect working condition. It drives just like a brand new Maestro would back in the day and it is mechanically perfect. To be fair, we think that it drives very well and within keeping with most popular makes that were around at this time. It certainly doesn't deserve the very bad press that they received. The Ford and Vauxhall alternatives that we see and drive quite regularly don't really feel much different.

As previously mentioned, this fantastic example has been maintained very well from day one and until being put into storage in 2003. After ten years of being stored correctly, the car was then put back into service, but has covered very few miles since. Below is a list of the mot history.
•January 7th 1992, 2194 miles
•January 4th 1993, 2951 miles
•August 30th 1994, 3677 miles
