Seller's comments about 1948' Bentley Mark VI Mk Vi Special

1948 Bentley MK VI Special

First registered on 25th March 1948, this Bentley MkVI was modified in the early 1970s by Alan Padgett with aluminium-alloy coachwork in the style of a Jaguar C-Type by specialist Bob Smith RS Panels. The car was campaigned regularly throughout the 1970s/1980s by Martin James Trentham in clubman and BDC races, and is featured in Bentley Specials & Special Bentleys by Ray Roberts.

By the mid-1990s the Bentley was in the possession of a French owner, who further modified and strengthened it for participation in the 1994 Carrera Panamericana road race. The car is powered by a Bentley S-Series 4,887cc six-cylinder engine, which underwent a top-end overhaul prior to the race. Specification highlights include triple Weber 48DCO carburettors, Salisbury 4HA rear axle, twin horns, Kenlowe electric cooling fans, battery cut off switch, map lamp, Willans four-point competition harnesses and a fire extinguisher (to be recharged). Modifications carried out specifically for the Carrera Panamericana include up-rated front disc brakes, Koni shock absorbers, electronic ignition, negative earth alternator electrics, additional oil radiator and bonnet ventilation, Plexiglas windscreen, additional sump protection and increased the ride height. In addition, the body/chassis was strengthened at six points to enable a rollover bar to be fitted.

The car was then sold at auction in Paris in 1997. Owner Miss Mercier regularly used the car until 2009 and then sold at Goodwood Bonhams auction this year. It was purchased from Mr Kevin Dolan in UK. The car was then sold in Germany to Mr Mandat from 2013 to today. We just bought the car in our stock.

OUR OPINION

This racing Bentley was carried out by Bentley Continental R specialist Alan Padgett, with a whole body aluminium inspiration on the Jaguar C-type, and produced by specialist Bob Smith RS panel. This Bentley ordered by Bentley Driver Martin to participate in races of BDC (Bentley Driver's Club) in the 70s, this car historically known and listed in the book "Bentley Specials" by Ray Roberts is absolutely amazing. Equipped with an 4.9l engine, Continental R gearbox, 3 Weber carburettors and incredible technical improvement, this Bentley got the fastest lap of the Silverstone circuit in 1984, rolled in Montlhéry also ran the legendary Carrera Panamericana in 1994 in south America. This Bentley works perfectly and is a little bit of the history of the famous Bentley Driver's.
