BCX 787R was owned by my father from June 2004 and has had four former keepers. It is one of the last e3s registered in February 1977 and I am told very rare in this colour, it is now tax & MOT exempt. Dad passed the car onto me around seven years ago in a fairly sorry state; this was his 3rd e3, the first one he owned in 1976 (it was two years old and I was nine!) and was another 2500A in Fjord Blue. There has nearly always been an e3 in the family, I owned a 3.0si also in Fjord Blue some years ago and I am no stranger to other shark nose models, previously two e28 M5s, e30s of various guises and currently an e28 528i, and an e12 M535i, so something of a sickness really.
This e3 began it's restoration as soon as it landed on my driveway the whole body was subject to a bare metal respray with all trim and bright work carefully removed cleaned & labelled and packed away for future re-fitting, this included the interior. As the restoration progressed it became quickly apparent the no structural welding of the chassis would be required, but floor pans, outer sills and rebuilding of rear arches would all be required. Added to this all four door shells and bonnet were replaced with rust free panels from Linwar motors at great expense. The wiring loom tape was carefully removed, wiring inspected and repaired or re-wrapped in loom tape from the front to the back of the car. Mechanically, the car was pretty much spot on, I recently replaced the mechanical fuel pump, as it was becoming difficult to start after a few weeks sat idle in the garage, all sorted now. The points and condenser were replaced by a luminition kit. As previously mentioned I have an e12 M535i, and I have put the springs and Bilsteins from that onto the e3, for a much better handling and ride height. Discs and pads were replace all round together with flexible and ridged brake pipes and hoses.
I have had various styles of wheels on the e3 (As shown in the pictures) and have finally settled with the Cromodora alloys that she sits on today. The car is in show condition and ready to be enjoyed by the right owner, I will be keen to ensure that this e3 finds a good home, as for the price, This is a rare car now, Footman James have agreed the value at £25,000, this certificate will be passed to the new owner, the BMW E3 register, headed up by Tony Wilkes have assessed the value at £22,500 the later figure is what I am guided by; that said I am realistic about what the car is worth, I am open to sensible offers, at the end of the day they are all worth as much as someone wants one.
As said, BCX 787R is Tax & MOT exempt, the MOT runs until April 2019, I will have the e3 re-tested prior to sale, by way of a safety check for peace of mind.
