Seller's comments about 1978' Cadillac Eldorado

This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The November Online Timed Auction on Thursday the 28th of November, Online. Background:The 1978 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz represented the pinnacle of luxury in Cadillac’s flagship personal luxury coupe lineup. Revived in 1977 for the final years of the sixth-generation Eldorado, the Biarritz trim stood out with its distinctive padded vinyl half-roof, additional chrome accents and signature badging. Inside, it offered plush, button-tufted leather upholstery, ornate stitching and extra sound insulation, emphasising comfort and exclusivity.Powering the Biarritz was Cadillac’s standard 425-cubic-inch (7. 0-litre) V8 engine, producing 180 horsepower and paired with a 3-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission. A less common option was the 5. 7-litre V8 diesel, designed for fuel efficiency, though it had limited appeal due to reliability concerns. In 1978, Cadillac also introduced the Eldorado Biarritz Custom Classic, a limited-edition run of 2, 000 cars, adding to the exclusivity of the model. With total production for the 1978 Eldorado Biarritz estimated at around 7, 000 units, this model has become a desirable collector’s item, particularly in the UK, where American classics of this calibre are relatively rare. It remains a defining example of 1970s American luxury, combining bold styling and advanced engineering with unmatched Cadillac opulence. The Car:Kept by its original owner in the United States for over 42 years, this 1978 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz is a shining example of 1970s American luxury. As the top-spec Eldorado model, the Biarritz trim is fully loaded, and this particular car goes even further, featuring every optional extra available. Among its standout features are cruise control, automatic headlamps with auto-dimming functionality, reclining power seats, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, delay wipers and a heated rear window. Most notably, it’s equipped with the rare and highly desirable ‘Glass Astro Roof’, an advanced tinted power sunroof marketed by GM and ASC. This, along with the Biarritz trim package, added nearly $4, 000 to the car’s base price - a significant investment in 1978.This Eldorado was imported into the UK in late 2020, and all duties and taxes have been paid. Officially registered as a historic vehicle, it is MOT and tax exempt. The car remains in outstanding condition, with rust-free panels, excellent paint lustre and an immaculate dashboard free from the cracks typically seen in models of this era. The original vinyl roof is exceptionally well-preserved, showing only minor age-related imperfections.Recent maintenance includes a full service, rebuilt brake callipers and the replacement of the bumper fillers - a common issue with these Cadillacs - sourced from a specialist in the US at a cost of over £1, 000. With only 15 miles covered since this service, the car runs, drives, steers and stops exactly as it should.Summary:Complete with extensive documentation, including the original US title, maintenance records and operating manuals, this Eldorado Biarritz is a rare find, particularly in the UK. Combining luxury, rarity and unmatched comfort, it’s a collector’s dream and a true testament to Cadillac’s golden age.Location: CoventryPhotographer: OwnSeller: Private
