Just home from the restoration shop, this rare and wonderful
big block convertible is ready for the beach, the mountains, or just for
cruising to the car show or the drive-in.

She is a superb example of the classic land yacht; massive
and plush, yet quick and powerful. Her
396 cid Turbo-Jet engine and Turbo-Hydromatic transmission have been driven less
than 1,000 miles since being rebuilt, producing 325 horses and 410 pounds of
torque for her twelve-bolt heavy duty rear axle. New 225 / 70R15 General RT 4 3 tires deliver
all that power to the asphalt.

Get a string bikini on your best model and photograph his/her
reflections in that fresh LeMans Blue Metallic (arguably the best color for
this model) paint with its mirror finish. You won’t have to work around imperfections in
that long, straight body (the car’s) and you won’t see wavy distortions or
blemishes, because there aren’t any. If
you can take your eyes off your model, notice that all the bright-work is new –
bumpers to door handles. Even the tail
lights have been replaced with new ones.

Admire how the new white top matches the Madrid grain
double-stitched white interior (older restoration to original standards -
multiple narrow, padded pleats, metal inserts) and how it perfectly contrasts
with the Daytona Blue paint that matches the new blue carpeting.

Open the door and let your honey slide into an incredibly
comfortable seat. Ease in yourself and
be delighted at how roomy and comfortable the Impala’s interior really is. If you feel like you’re sitting on a plushy
sofa, that’s because the seats are made with real furniture springs and extra
heavy foam.

Give the accelerator a few pats. She wakes up slowly because that’s a classic
CarterJet 4 bbl carburetor sitting atop the powerplant. (You won’t see any difference later when you
open the hood, but there’s a new electronic distributer (no points) to fire her
off. Let her rumble for a minute to come
alive while you push down the top button.

Did you notice the glass rear window? It won’t crease or darken like vinyl windows
sometimes do. Listen to the top motor
whine as new top hydraulic pistons open up the cockpit. If you can stand to
ignore those new Flowmaster mufflers connected to a complete new aluminized dual
exhaust system, switch on the radio. It
looks almost like original equipment (the original is available with the car),
but it is a new Bluetooth, signal seeking unit delivering audio to a new
combination speaker system. Sounds good.

Now lever into drive and take her down the road. Be pleased at how well she behaves on that
new suspension package. Wave back at her
admirers. Enjoy the breeze on your
face, the sun on your hair. If the sun’s
too warm, crank up the Impala’s air conditioning unit that’s already been
converted to R134 refrigerant so you don’t have to worry about the
environment. Be in love. You deserve it. And don’t think about stopping. You’ve got those big disc front brakes, new
calipers and fresh pads to take care of that.
