A cult object from the 30s to 50s with a great history. This 4-door sedan, 2.9 l in-line six-cylinder engine with 78 hp (57 kW), precise rack and pinion steering, 3-speed manual gearbox (on the dashboard) was a representative vehicle for statesmen, but also a coveted vehicle for gangsters and commissars due to its good road holding. The Citroën Traction Avant (translated "front-wheel drive") had many technical features that were new at the time and are standard in today's automotive industry. The Frenchman is one of the first high-tech vehicles in automotive history and has gained a reputation for indestructible robustness over the course of its 23-year production period. The chrome-plated radiator grille, which looks even more elegant from this year of construction, is striking for the year of manufacture 1949. Front suicide doors also ensure easy entry and exit. The windscreen can be easily opened at the bottom, so the interior can be ventilated in warm weather. Incidentally, for operation in cold regions or in winter, a blind was installed in front of the radiator grille so that the engine reached its operating temperature more quickly. Another highlight, the Traction Avant is the first vehicle with a self-supporting body! As a result, these models were lighter and had a lower center of gravity than their competitors. By installing the engine behind and the gearbox in front of the front axle, a good load distribution was achieved. The maximum speed of the vehicle was 130 to 140 km/h. With the driven front wheels suspended individually on double wishbones and torsion bar springs and the rigid rear axle, which was guided on two trailing arms with torsion bar springs and a Panhard rod, road holding and comfort that were outstanding for the time were achieved. It fulfilled its legendary role as a black limousine for escapes and pursuits well after the end of its construction period. Whether in real life or on the screen, for example with Jean Gabin in the back as Commissioner Maigret (yes, you see correctly, this is exactly the original car on offer!!) or in the James Bond adventure "From Russia with Love". The Traction Avant already has an Austrian historic registration (as well as "carte grise", a French vehicle registration) and can be viewed and test driven in Linz if you are interested.
