1937' Cord 812 Custom Beverly

In the second half of the 1930s there were not many customers left for these very expensive cars and sales were very slow. In 1936 the Cord factory made one last attempt with a highly advanced car. Chief designer Gordon Buehrig gave the new Cord 810/812 a very dramatic design that stood out as a symbol of sport and style and when it hit the market made most other cars look quite outdated.

There were built only 94 Custom Bervely cars. They had a longer wheel base and all the extra space was used for added leg room at the rear seat. The Custom Beverly was therefore also very suitable for the wealthy owner with a chauffeur.

The engine is the 4.7 liter flat head V8 from aero engine manufacturer Lycoming, another subsidiary in the Cord Corporation. The car had all the technical features that made Cord such an advanced car for its time: The electrically operated pre-selector gearbox from Bendix., front wheel drive, independent suspension and hidden headlights .

This Custom Beverly came from Florida to Denmark in 2015 and is in very good condition.
