Introduced in 1957, this tiny but charming vehicle was designed to address post-war Italy's need for affordable transportation. Its compact size, efficient engineering, and distinctive rounded shape quickly captured the hearts of the Italian population and beyond. The original Fiat 500's small 479cc engine provided modest power, but its lightweight construction and clever design made it a nimble and practical choice for urban mobility. Over its production span, the Fiat 500 underwent several updates, evolving in design and technology while retaining its essential character. With its enduring popularity and status as a symbol of Italy's post-war recovery, the original Fiat 500 remains an enduring icon in the automotive world. We are delighted to offer this 1970 Fiat 500 L in cream with tan leatherette interior. First registered in November 1970, the car was supplied to the province of Ancona in Italy. The Italian vehicle registration document is present with plenty of stamps and stickers in it, although our limited language skills prevent us from being 100% on what they represent. The Fiat then made its way to the UK in around 2003. There is bundle of invoices and packing slips for both parts and maintenance dating back to this time. There’s a flurry of them from 2019 / 2020 that suggest the car had something of a refresh at that time. Notable items replaced were the starter motor, battery, brakes and various trim pieces. Externally, the cream paint presents extremely well with just a few blemishes here and there. The matching folding roof is in good condition and appears free from any rips and tears. It sits on StilAuto Ray alloy wheels, manufactured in Italy and designed to resemble Borrani wires, and these are wrapped in Cinturato CN54 period-style tyres. The rear rack complete with picnic basket, gives it a charming, period look. The cabin is a lovely place to be, with rich tan seats and door cards and a fresh-looking brown carpet set. The leatherette appears to be clean and free from any obvious damage. An Abarth-branded wooden steering wheel and matching gear knob have been added. The car comes with V5C, original registration document, some old MOTs and a bundle of invoices. The vendor has also supplied a collection of spare parts including bonnet trim, Zenith carburettor kit, brake shoes, fuel filter, belts and brake hoses. You have to be hard-hearted not to raise a smile when you see an original Fiat 500 and this is a truly delightful example. With a very sensible reserve, grabbing your own slice of “la dolce vita” won’t cost the earth and the new owner can simply bask in the affection that follows this car wherever it goes.
