Ford Capri 3.0 S for sale.
Rare Non-Sunroof Modle.
Engine number matches chassis number
I purchased the car in February 2018 having undergone a colour change by the previous owner from gold to silver (log book has been amended). Having road tested the car, several issues were apparent that needed addressing such as misfiring, backfiring through the carb, poor handling, lack of braking, electrical problems and some minor cosmetic issues.
Please note that the mileage is an estimate as we still use the car from time to time.
The work I have undertaken on the car is as follows:
ENGINE..
Engine, gearbox and rear axle all removed for inspection.
Engine stripped down. All engine threads cleaned and re-tapped where needed.
Bottom end main and shell bearing end caps removed (no signs of wear) re fitted.
New oil pump and oil pump drive shaft fitted, as these are a common weak point on these engines.
Sump and oil pick up thoroughly cleaned and refitted with new gaskets.
Timing cover removed, new steel camshaft timing gear fitted and engine set to top dead centre. (Original fibre timing gear is another weak point of these engines)
Cam and crank shaft end float and checked. (Crank 0.187mm. cam 0.208mm. well within tolerance)
Timing cover refitted with new gaskets and crankshaft oil seal.
New Rear crankshaft oil seal fitted.
Heads removed and stripped down and water galleries cleaned.
Heads sent away to be skimmed. One valve seat was pitted so was replaced. All exhaust valve seats were found to already be hardened unleaded seats.
Cylinder bores inspected and reviled very minor lip at the top of the stroke but no scoring.
Six new exhaust valves fitted, all valves then re-lapped.
Heads refitted with new gaskets and new head bolts.
Valve clearances set to 13 thousandths of an inch inlet…22 thousandths exhaust.
Carburettor stripped down. New gaskets, diaphragm, pump jet and filters fitted.
Flywheel refaced as was scored due to warn clutch.
New Flywheel spigot bearing fitted.
New electronic distributor kit fitted, including plugs, leads and coil (non ballast type)
New water pump.
New thermostat.
New oil, air and fuel filters.
New battery.
Radiator and heater matrix removed, flushed, refitted and refilled with red antifreeze.
Engine refilled with high quality Valvoline vr1 20/50 oil.
GEARBOX..
Gear oil drained
New Gearbox front and rear oil seal fitted and filled with new oil
New clutch kit fitted.
New clutch cable
New clutch folk cover
AXLE..
Differential cover removed and oil drained
New diff cover and gasket fitted (small hole found in old cover)
Refilled with new oil.
BRAKES..
Master cylinder removed, stripped down and new seals fitted.
New copper brake lines fitted (All brake lines and fittings replaced)
New braided brake flexies front and back fitted.
New front pads
New rear shoes
New rear wheel cylinders
New brake fluid
STEERING & SUSPENSION
All steering and suspension components removed for inspection
New track control arms fitted
New track rod ends fitted
New steering rack gaiters
New power steering fluid
Rear poly bush kit fitted (leaf spring front and back, antiroll bar to chassis and to axle, spring shackles, spring sandwich bushes)
New rear shock absorbers.
Tracking done by MOT inspector.
Some electrical work has been carried out as lights, wipers and blower motor were not working. This was mostly down to dirty connections however some wires have had to be replaced.
Some welding carried out on both rear inner quarters to a good standard. 18 gauge steel used as this is thicker and stronger than factory panels.
Finished with a thin coat of wax oil schutz
All parts removed have been cleaned and painted. Comes with 4 superlight 7/13 alloys with new tyres, tubular manifolds and full stainless steel janspeed exhaust system.
Lots of pictures taken during restoration which can be sent via email if you wish to view.
The car is now eligible for MOT exemption however given the amount of work done I have had an MOT done on the car, MOT until 30th October 2019 passed with no advisories. Road Tax EXEMPT
