This Ford Escort Mexico is a 1973 registered car it has a V5 registration document correctly showing Mexico and the chassis number and Vin tag are correct for the vehicle.
Like many Mk1 Mexico's at some point in its earlier life the car has been re-shelled, I believe the shell was an AVO shell but not for the correct year as the car has the boot studs for a stone deflector, strut top plates and the correct 6 dial dash aperture fitted, however it is a post 1973 shell as it has later more vertical shock absorbers mounts fitted in the boot (but I do have all the correct boot floor sections and fittings to correct this at some future point).
I purchased this car as a rolling restoration as I wanted a usable car, rather than a trailer show car, having been there before with a car too well restored to ever want to drive!
Since owning the car, I have had new centre chassis rails fitted and new front floor pans, the car is now solid, but could do with some attention to detail in a few areas, but nothing to stop the car being used. The battery has been relocated to the boot, however it just needs a battery tray fitting in the near side front engine bay to put the car back to standard layout at little cost, something I plan to do myself soon anyway.
We have just overhauled the full brake system with new rear shoes, wheel cylinders, brake lines, and a new master cylinder, the car already had new front callipers. The interior is nice having just had a new correct headlining, wheel arch vinyls, door trims, original dash pad (very rare), refurbished switches, new carpet, heater matrix and restored wiring loom throughout.
The car is now 43 years old, and of course has had welding and repairs like most classic Fords, however the car now looks nice, and will make a good usable Mexico which is known and registered with the Ford AVO club, changing the incorrect period parts should be possible by a competent welder/fabricator.
The car has a good engine which starts on the key with good oil pressure. It has a 2000e gearbox, hydraulic clutch, correct propshaft, rare optional big head radiator, axle and correct Mexico brakes all round. I have fitted new headlamp shells and headlights, all the electrics work correctly and I am not aware of any significant issues with the car.
The car comes with a selection of extras including a rare pair of original front contour bucket seats period correct but need re-upholstering, a set of 4 Cibie spot/driving lamps in excellent condition and a period correct replica RS centre console.
My sale price at £19500 ono is for the car with a new MOT. The photos are of the car in various stages of work to give you an idea of how solid the car is.
