The car offered here is of particular historical value! After it was delivered by the Ford Hinteregger company in 1959, it served as the official vehicle of the Austrian Interior Minister Josef Afritsch for the first few years. The car was registered to the Ministry of the Interior and had the license plate “W 12”. This can all be proven with the accompanying original papers from 1959. After being withdrawn from government service, the impressive car went into private ownership.
The present vehicle was Artur M. Riekmann's first American car. It was acquired by him in the 1970s and is still in his private possession today. The car suffered engine failure over 40 years ago, which was repaired by the now unfortunately deceased mechanic legend Karl Zuklyn Sr. was personally remedied through a general overhaul. The new engine was installed, but due to lack of time, the gearbox and cardan shaft have not yet been installed and are of course included with the car.
While the engine was being replaced, a bodywork plumber worked on the few corroded areas and primed them after completion. A master painter was commissioned to carry out the subsequent fine work on the body, but unfortunately he never started the work. The car sat in a fortunately dry hall for over 40 years and remained in relatively good condition. The paintwork is weathered and has an exceptionally attractive patina. We are now looking for a motivated lover of extraordinary vehicles who will take care of this historical witness in order to restore it to its former glory. Of course, you could think about leaving the Ford in this paint condition and just giving it a technical overhaul. If necessary, we will be happy to help you procure spare parts.
This particularly rare and impressive Ford model, which was awarded a medal as "The World's Most Beautifully Proportioned Car" at the 1958 World Exhibition in Brussels, is of interest to both collectors and investors as it has a very interesting Austrian history has.
