1963 Jaguar Mk II 3.8 Auto

Estimate: £18,500-19,500

Recently imported from the USA; believed to have had only two registered keepers since new; gearbox rebuilt by UK specialist at a cost of approx £2,000; Carmen red with wire wheels; remarkably solid all round; left hand drive

This left hand drive Jaguar was originally USA registered in 1963. It was sold to a lady owner who kept it until 1985, reportedly covering some 35,000 miles during the time. It then moved to a Texas collector who also used it very sparingly, keeping it in his collection until 2019. Shortly after, it was purchased and imported back to the UK by our vendor, still only showing only 36,000 miles! The original Texas certificate of title on file confirms these details and there are also the relevant NOVA reference numbers to help with the straightforward UK registration process.

On inspection, the engine block appears to be stamped with an e-type style number, therefore one would have to assume that the engine has been changed during one of the above ownerships. Not an unusal feature of these cars but it does mean that we can not guarantee the mileage. The underside is incredibly solid and the body seems remarkably rust free. This includes the floors, boot well, sills, wings and the bottom of the doors. The paintwork is equally impressive, maybe apart from some minor cracking around one door handle and a repaired small chip near the bonnet, but don’t let this put you off because overall, this seems to be a fairly well cared for 3.8 Mk II.

The photographs of the interior and paintwork reflect how it looks in the flesh - the doors shut with a very reassuring clunk and since arriving in the UK, it has been treated to a few birthdays all at once in order to get it recommissioned.

Since its arrival in the UK, the original gearbox has been completely overhauled, along with a recored radiator and new fuel pump. Gaskets, plugs, ignition and carbs have all been newly fitted or cleaned and it passed an MOT the day before arriving with us.

The dry, hot-State climate has certainly been kind to the car and with power steering, overdrive, a re-conditioned Borg Warner automatic gearbox and finished in striking Carmen red, this is definitely worth considering for the static collection or to use on a regular basis.
