Seller's comments about 1958' Jaguar Mk9

This top-class Jaguar MK IX 3.8 Saloon was manufactured on the 31st December 1958 and supplied new by Henlys, London to Messrs. Sarden Ltd, a Buckinghamshire-based. company. The Jaguar was registered 163 UMD on the 21st January 1959 and stayed with its first owner for almost five years changing hands in December 1964 through Dick Evans Cars to a private owner in Southampton. In 1967 it passed to its third owner, this time in Gosport, Hampshire where it remained for over 30 years. 163 UMD is very obviously a low mileage car, still retaining its original registration mark, original engine and it comes with a well-documented history.
The long-term owner purchased the Jaguar when it was just 8 years old and the oldest MOT on file is from 1974 when the mileage was recorded at 4331 miles. Until his retirement, the owner spent most of his time on contract work overseas and for that reason the Jaguar had little use. By 1993 it had covered less than 3000 further miles, an MOT recording mileage then at 7176 miles. From 1993 to 1999 the Jaguar was laid up off the road and was sold requiring restoration work having covered just 3000 miles since 1974.

A letter is on file from the car's owner of over 30 years in 1999, stating that the car was in remarkably original condition requiring re-furbishment work. The only changes from original specification were the fitting of a manual electric choke override switch and electrically operated screen wash. The car was subsequently sold and in 2006 a restoration program commenced taking around four years to complete. A full photographic record shows a major body restoration using various new panels. The rolling shell was rebuilt to an extremely high standard, and fully re-painted in Old English White. The brightwork was all re-chromed ensuring the completed car was of show standard. The super original interior was carefully renovated and the MK IX was mechanically overhauled and re-commissioned as required.

163 UMD today presents in beautiful condition. The bodywork, chrome and paint are all first class, the interior absolutely delightful retaining a high level of originality and the engine bay is magnificent. Whist we cannot guarantee the recorded mileage of 7600 miles, we do know the car has covered only 3300 miles in the last 47 years, the only unknown being the mileage covered between 1959 and 1974 when the recorded mileage at MOT test was 4331. There is no doubt that this is a low mileage car and with its stunning rebuilt bodyshell, strong running gear and stunning appearance, 163 UMD is certainly a very special and possibly unique car. It has provenance and show quality aesthetics following its comprehensive restoration. This large powerful Jaguar saloon with power steering is capable of regular use, and would be ideal for longer distance touring.

On the road, the ride and handling are impressive for a car of this size. The lusty 3.8 litre twin-cam propels the car briskly to 60MPH on A Roads. Not only does the intermediate hold on the auto gearbox function correctly, a quick stab of the accelerator swiftly engages the kick-down when more acceleration is needed. A top quality set of expensive Avon high-speed cross ply tyres give the car a very period feel on the road.

The Jaguar comes with a comprehensive file including restoration photographic record, original first ‘buff' logbook, continuation logbook, MOT's from 1974 and 1993, various parts invoices, Jaguar factory record paperwork and several early period booklets to include Lucas Voltage Control, Jaguar MKIX brake safety information, Dunlop tyre information and even an invoice from 1967 from Wadham Group for parts. The original tool kits in the door panels are also present and correct.

Truly an impressive specimen of the imposing and timeless Jaguar MK IX for the discerning collector
