Seller's comments about 1950' Jaguar Xk120

1950 Jaguar XK120 Alloy Roadster
Chassis: 670165
Registration: MSU 724
Matching numbers.
Ex David Gilmour / Lord Rufus
Excellent Condition.
Launched on the 20th October 1948 the American market took to the XK120 immediately and the demand caught Jaguar by surprise. Many Hollywood stars ordered one, which only enhanced Jaguar's image and sales, and in the early days most XK120's went across the Atlantic and it was immediately apparent that the level of demand could only be satisfied by moving from a lightweight alloy-bodied ash frame construction to steel coachwork. This took time and the initial 57 right hand drive cars and 183 left hand drive cars were hand built with a lightweight aluminium alloy. MSU 724 is one of those early alloy cars.
This car:
Built on March 2nd 1950 and delivered to C Hornburg, Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood, USA. Amongst its past owners are filmmaker Lord Antony Rufus (9 1/ 2 weeks) and acclaimed Grammy winning musician and song writer David Gilmour CBE.
Upon acquisition Mr. Gilmour commissioned a major body-off restoration, performed by RS Panels of Nuneaton, England. Chassis was shot blasted and finished in black enamel and a full mechanical rebuild was performed at this time. In addition a Salisbury rear axle was fitted to accommodate wire wheels and disc brakes all around. Mr. Gilmour owned MSU 724 for 10 years before selling on in 2000. Eventually returning to the United States in 2004 where she resided for the next 12 years before been repatriated to the UK.
Currently configured with Brooklands Screens and removable aluminium fairings with fitted tonneau cover (original screen, roof and weather equipment and spats are present and included with the sale). The car has been thoroughly and professionally maintained with supporting documents and stands 100 percent ready for tours and rallies, properly sorted and exciting to drive.
