Seller's comments about 1956' Jaguar Xk140
This Jaguar XK140 OTS, or roadster, started life as a left-hand drive car in the US. It was built in March 1956 and exported to New York, USA. When the car was returned to the UK for restoration, it was converted to right-hand drive and has remained here since.
In 2004 and 2005, the car underwent a full nut and bolt restoration here at Twyford Moors. The car was built to an impressive specification with fast road use in mind. The engine was rebuilt to fast road specification and mated to a T5 five-speed gearbox. The car has been fitted with a pedal box, providing additional legroom along with a hydraulic clutch and a dual brake system. The brakes have been upgraded to disc brakes on the front. The suspension was fully rebuilt with polyurethane bushes, an uprated anti-roll bar, and adjustable shock absorbers. The cooling system has been improved with an electric cooling fan and an aluminium expansion tank. This XK also benefits from an alternator, electronic ignition, and a solid-state fuel pump.
As you would expect from one of our restorations, this car still looks stunning even 20 years on. Finished in British Racing Green with a two-tone Biscuit and Green interior and Green wet weather gear, this is a very purposeful-looking car. This XK has a real period motorsport look with body-coloured wire wheels, a louvred bonnet, bonnet strap, and Le Mans style fuel filler. The seats have been upgraded to bucket seats which provide additional support and, along with the pedal box, allow for additional legroom. Four-point harnesses further add to the motorsport feel.
Out on the road, the extensive list of upgrades comes together to create an incredible driving experience. The car feels responsive and connected to the road without being harsh. The five-speed gearbox allows for swift gear changes as you accelerate as well as comfortable motorway cruising. When you put your foot down, the delivery of torque from the fast road engine is striking, allowing for spirited driving without the need to keep the engine at high revs. The brakes and steering are responsive and give plenty of feel and feedback. This XK140 inspires confidence in the driver. One feels you could comfortably cover many miles cross country or on the motorway, take part in a track day, and then drive home again with the car taking it all in its stride.
It is somewhat of a rarity to find an XK140 OTS in such fine condition and upgraded to such a specification. It has been maintained to the highest standards over the past 20 years with regular servicing here at Twyford Moors. The wet weather gear is in good order throughout and fits well, making this car very usable. This is a real driver's machine and is guaranteed to put a smile on the face of anyone who drives it.
