Collectible Motorcar of Atlanta is pleased to offer this 1954 Kaiser Manhattan Supercharged Sedan for sale. The Kaiser Manhattan was built from 1953-1955, and only 4,109 Manhattans were produced by the small and independent auto company, Kaiser-Frazer, before it was elbowed out of the market by the Big American Three. Deemed at the time the safest car around, they were the last of the Kaiser-Frazer offerings before they closed their doors in 1955. Henry J. Kaisers venture into automobile manufacturing has been well documented, the ups and downs of the brand, all which resulted in the eventual pioneering adoption of the popular McCulloch Supercharger. For 1954, Kaiser addressed the power issues of the Kaiser and its possible impact on sales by utilizing the McCulloch VS57 Supercharger on the 1954 Kaiser Manhattan. This raised the horsepower of the 226 cid L head six-cylinder engine from 118 hp to 140 hp. During engine manufacture all components used were thoroughly inspected, and the completed power plants were extensively tested, probably to the extent that they were the most tested engines produced by any manufacturer of the time. Another unique feature on the Manhattan is it was a first to offer side-maker lights. An original advertising slogan stated The new 54 Kaiser Supercharger turns Beauty into a Bomb ! This Kaiser Manhattan Supercharged Sedan is a fine example finished in Comet Blue complimented with a White top. The interior is finished in Blue/ Gray Tweed. The car came from a private collection where it lived many years in the dry climate of Texas. It sports wire hubcaps along with nice Coker wide whitewall tires. The Supercharged L Six-Cylinder fires right up and the transmission shifts smoothly. These cars are not common and getting hard to find in this condition.
