Seller's comments about 1980' Land Rover Lightweight
For sale, through JOHN BROWN 4X4 LTD, Land Rover® Lightweight in Drab Olive (1980).
Petrol 2286cc. MOT & Tax Exempt. Unleaded Head Conversion from Turner Engineering. Released from the forces in 1994, and every MOT exists since then – so mileage is known genuine and correct @ 66, 181 miles. Large Folder of Receipts for works carried out since late 1990s, including servicing, MOTs, new parts etc. Heater with De-mist. 7 Seater. 6 former keepers since release.
We are delighted to present for sale this Land Rover® Lightweight, finished in the Drab Olive colour scheme, with new Khaki Canvas & Drab Olive wheels. This is a particularly interesting prospect because, unlike most lightweights, it has a complete civilian history post release, including all old MOTs, and a significant folder of receipts. This means that the mileage can be confirmed at 66, 181 miles – which is something that is almost impossible to do in the case of virtually every other vehicle! This equates to just 1539 miles per year since it was delivered in 1980, which is exceptionally low.
Externally, there are lots of the original period Lightweight features on display – the bonnet mounted spare (with correct retaining strap), front and rear bumperettes, front bridging plate, military lifting eyes, military screw lenses, NATO hitch, pioneer tool fixing points, etc etc. A new canvas completes the look, along with a set of road biased tyres, and some new end caps to the hubs too. What is also nice to note is the quality of both the bodywork and paintwork, which is better than the majority of Lightweights.
On the inside, it is great to see that the vast majority of the original features survive – the wiper motor cover, the heater with de-mist (handy for those colder mornings), military fly screens to the vents, fire extinguisher in the passenger footwell, etc etc. Three standard front seats are fitted, with mats in the footwells. The rear houses a pair of twin bench seats, with a load mat to the floor area.. meaning that this Lightweight can seat seven people including the driver – allowing the whole family to come along for the ride!
Out on the road, the large folder of receipts & the low mileage has led to a really strong and pleasing period drive – the unleaded head gives better power than standard – it really is a joy to be out on the road in and garners lots of attention when out and about.
In summary, if you are looking for a Lightweight with a strong provenance, then this could be for you. With the added benefits of MOT & Tax Exemption, alongside classic and military insurances, this should prove to be a low fuss, low cost future investment that you can enjoy – especially when bearing in mind the low mileage & large history file.
