Seller's comments about 1972' Land Rover Series 3

For sale, through JOHN BROWN 4x4, Land Rover® Series 3 Ragtop in Light Pastel Green (1972).
Petrol 2286cc. MOT & Tax Exempt. Weber Carburettor. New Ignition System. 7 Seater – 3 Front Standard Seats w/ Rear Bench Seats. New Exhaust System. Recent Canvas. Tow Bar and Electrics.
We are delighted to present for sale this early 1972 Series 3 88 inch, presented in the popular Light Pastel Green colour scheme, with Limestone Wheels and Sand Canvas. This particular vehicle also already has rear benches fitted, meaning seating for the whole family!
Externally, this has the features one would expect to see if buying a “good” Series 3 – the vintage black and silver number plates, the rear grab handles, the recent canvas, the steel wheels with Goodyear Cross-Climate Tyres for superior road holding ability (larger than standard for better gearing), deluxe bonnet, defender door mirrors for superior visibility when driving, a tow bar with modern electrics to allow towing – etc etc. Those who know our adverts know we very much like to stick to the facts, avoiding flowery superlatives – in our opinion though, this is a really handsome Series 3 which is the right combination of period features and modern upgrades.
On the inside, there are three standard front seats, along with deluxe matting to the footwells. It is nice to note all three seats up front have belts, which is handy. The rear houses a pair of twin bench seats to bring seating to seven people including the driver, meaning the whole family can come along on your next adventure. The rear floor is protected by a rear load mat to prevent scratches. Again – we’d like the photos to speak for themselves… look at the dash, which hasn’t suffered the usual sun cracking and vinyl damage, and the deep dish floor mats to keep the dirt down – all nice touches to enhance the “stock” feel.
Out on the road, this Series 3 really shines and delivers an enjoyable period drive. The gent we purchased this vehicle from has recently, at his expense, had both the carburettor replaced for a more powerful and reliable Weber Carburettor and had the entire ignition system replaced with new items for maximum reliability – this included a new coil, HT Leads, Spark Plugs & Distributor. Anyone “in the know” on Series Land Rovers® know that this means all the potential issues going forward have been tackled. When we asked him why he did this – he noted there was nothing wrong with the previous items, but he wanted to make sure it was “good for the future” – very kind and indicative of the sort of character he was. The full new exhaust system also means a raspy tone when one presses on, which is infectious and can be heard even better with the sides and rear of the canvas rolled up on a sunny day…… I’m sure those reading can imagine how we know that!
In summary then, if you are looking for a Series 3 Land Rover® that can seat the whole family, whilst also benefitting from MOT & Tax Exemption alongside Classic Insurance, then this could be for you. With the added bonus of money spent to maximise reliability – it should prove to be as hassle free as possible in the long term, whilst being ready to hop in and drive whenever the mood takes you.
