Seller's comments about 1972' Land Rover Series 3

In Marine blue with a black interior.The first owner of this cracking 109" Safari Land Rover purchased it from Appleyard Gibbon Ltd of Glasgow in August 1972. He was a cameraman for Scottish TV and used it to transport his gear to locations around Scotland.On his passing in January 1993 it was gifted to its second keeper, the car mad young son of a good friend of his. It was stored for over twenty five years until the owner was in a position to instigate a chassis up rebuild at a Land Rover specialist, which was completed in 2018.The chassis was galvanised, the bodywork was rebuilt where necessary and a replacement bulkhead was used as the original was too far gone. The original safari roof was retained. The 109 received a complete mechanical overhaul including a complete rewire, and a rebuilt petrol engine was fitted. Inside, new Exmoor Trim seats and a cubby box were installed along with new flooring and a new headlining. There are seatbelts fitted throughout and fitted rubber mats. The work was extensive and with attention to detail.The idea behind the restoration was to keep the car looking original, but to build it to last and to add a few upgrades to make it more suitable for modern traffic. With this in mind the Land Rover now has an overdrive fitted, LED lights, Crystal headlamps, a Swingaway spare wheel carrier, 12V and USB sockets, and heated front windscreens. There is also modern security installed.A wonderful history file accompanies the Series 111 with invoices and paperwork going back to the early days, a handwritten maintenance journal, the original Passport to Service book, workshop manuals, original brochures and literature and an original Land Rover handbook.In fine order throughout with excellent unmarked bodywork and paintwork, an immaculate interior and very good mechanicals, Land Rover specialists having maintained it for the 4, 000 miles since build, the 109 remains in superb condition.109 Safari Land Rovers are rare now and this one has condition, outstanding provenance with two owners since new and a substantial history, and specification as its appeal. It would be a wonderful addition to an enthusiast's garage.
