In 1959 Mercedes-Benz presented the 220 S W111, a revolutionary model for the time as it already included energy absorption zones in the event of an impact, making it one of the safest cars of its time. This passive safety concept continues to be used in automobiles today. In sport, he also gave cards, winning the 1962 Montecarlo Rally by the hand of the pilot Ewy Rosqvist.
Conceived as a road model, the Mercedes-Benz 220S equipped a 6-cylinder engine with 2.2 liters of displacement, which yielded around 110 hp of power in the 220 S version and 120 hp in the 220 SE version.
