Seller's comments about 1964' Mercedes-Benz S-Klasse
For sale is a Mercedes-Benz 220 SEb W111 Cabriolet from 1964. This vehicle combines contemporary history, luxury and style in a unique way and offers the lover of classic automobiles a rare opportunity to acquire a true collector's item.
The convertible was cared for with a lot of love, partially restored a few years ago and already has an Austrian historical registration. Before that, the classic was already approved in Germany. The German letter is still available.
The body and interior are in good to very good condition, although it still retains the charm of the original in a few places. Estimated condition: exterior grade 2, interior grade 2. The paintwork is DB light beige, as delivered from the factory. The drive unit is a contemporary 2.2l six-cylinder engine with 88 kW (120 Din-HP). The §57a Pickerl is valid until 07/2026.
The following work was carried out during the last service:
- oil change and oil filter - spark plugs and battery replaced - transmission oil and transmission shaft seal replaced - crankshaft seal, differential seal replaced - wishbone etc. left, shock absorber steering linkage replaced - new master brake cylinder and wheel bearings adjusted - front brake hoses replaced
The W 111 belongs to Mercedes-Benz's famous tail fin series, also known as the "large (tail) fin". In the USA it was called the "Fintail Mercedes". These distinctive fins actually served as an aid to make reversing parking easier.
The vehicle company placed great emphasis on safety, which is why the classic is equipped with advanced crumple zones. These zones ensure that the stability of the passenger cell remains high and the risk of injury to the occupants in the event of an accident is relatively low by partially absorbing the impact energy through the softer body areas on the front and rear axles. In addition, the W 111 has wedge door locks, which increase the stability of the passenger cell and prevent the doors from bursting open in the event of an accident.
Various safety measures have also been taken in the interior: These include a padded dashboard with elastic, partially recessed controls and a steering wheel with a padded plate. Seat belts were optional.
The C models (coupes and convertibles) were also the last vehicles to be largely handcrafted, which meant that prices were almost twice as high as the sedans!
