Seller's comments about 1977' Mercedes-Benz Sl Class
This superbly presented Mercedes Benz 350SL Roadster was a late 1977 build, first registered on the 19th of January 1978 to a Leeds based Limited Company who owned the car for two years. On the 14th of January 1980, the 350SL was taken to the Isle of Man where it was registered as 350 CMN and the SL remained on the island for thirteen years, returning to U. K. mainland in 1993 with 43893 miles. Reunited with its original U. K. registration mark, a deal was brokered by Kemp Bros of Sussex in 1993 and the car sold to a lady in Sussex who owned the SL for an impressive 33 years. The SL has now covered 77, 600 miles from new and comes with an impressive file of paperwork.By 2019, the car was requiring a cosmetic refreshment so its long term owners commissioned a full outer repaint which has been superbly documented by way of a photo album that is present with the comprehensive history file. One year later, the 350SL was fitted with a brand new Blue mohair hood ensuring the weather equipment did not detract from the beautiful paintwork. Many years on since the paintwork and the SL presents superbly with a lovely deep finish. Having had an interior re-trim, the inside of the car is incredibly well presented and certainly enhances what is a wonderful, high quality driving experience.Mechanical maintenance has been fastidious throughout its long term ownership with an impressive archive of repairs and routine servicing from its early life in the 1990s right through to present day. In 2020, UTB 388S received a detailed ignition service, full gearbox service, and new injectors. One year later, the Mercedes had a new alternator along with the belts in addition to another service. On the road the SL is impressive, it offers excellent performance from its V8 engine, a smooth gear change and handling and braking are impressive. This luxury grand tourer is a delight to drive, ideal for long distance touring and motorway miles. The Mercedes-Benz 350SL belongs to the iconic R107 series of SL-Class roadsters, one of the longest-running single model lines in Mercedes-Benz history. Introduced in 1971 as the successor to the famous Pagoda and was the first model to launch with a V8 engine as standard. The 1978 example represents the "classic" pre-facelift era R107: elegant chrome details, smooth V8 power, and that unmistakable Mercedes luxury-roadster character. Throughout the 70s Mercedes were at the forefront of technology and safety in motor manufacturing. The 350SL features a 3. 5-liter M116 V8 engine, pulling smoothly and quickly to the national speed limit in just 9 seconds, fuelled by a Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection. Mated to the powerful engine is a silky 3-speed automatic transmission perfect for relaxing grand touring.
