Ready for enjoyable trips?The Mercedes-Benz 190 SL is one of the style-defining roadsters of its time. Hardly any other classic combines the elegant lines of the early 1960s so harmoniously with sporty lightness and a cultivated driving experience. The Mercedes-Benz 190 SL Roadster from the W121 BII series from 1961 offered here is a particularly charming representative of this legendary model. This vehicle is a German vehicle, originally intended for the Dutch market. In total, only 3,792 examples of the 1961 model year were produced. Between 1955 and 1963, Mercedes-Benz offered the popular touring sports car either as a convertible with a soft top or as a coupé with a hard top. However, the classic roadster variant is particularly popular - drive open, enjoy the sun and experience the timeless design in its purest form. The designation "190" traditionally refers to the displacement in centiliters, while the abbreviation "SL" stands for "Sport Leicht" - a model philosophy that combines driving pleasure and elegance and was used over several vehicle generations. History According to information from the previous owner, the original German owner of this convertible emigrated to the USA in the early 1970s and took the 190 SL with him across the Atlantic. The car only returned to Europe in 2019. Shortly afterwards it was purchased by an Austrian owner and partially restored. A color code notice in the glove compartment indicates this work was carried out in 2020. The current owner has had the roadster since spring 2023.Restoration & conditionThe car does not present itself as an over-restored showpiece, but as a stylish classic with character. The 190 SL has retained its original charm: doors, hood and trunk made of aluminum. This was an important part of Mercedes' lightweight construction concept to keep the roadster agile despite the heavy engine and massive technology. The rest of the body is made of sheet steel.- The chrome trim shows a beautiful, authentic patina.- Most of the interior has been preserved.- The top, door panels and carpets have been replaced.- The seats have been reupholstered with original leather and show slight signs of wear.- All operational and safety-relevant components have been revised or replaced during the restoration.- The engine, gearbox, axles and the electrical system have been overhauled using only original parts. Recently, additional parts were overhauled renewed:Brake cylinderBrake shoesBrake light switchFor optimal everyday suitability and efficiency, the carburettor system was converted to 40 DCOE Weber carburetors (typed).TechnologyA contemporary 1.9-liter four-cylinder replacement engine with 77 kW / 105 DIN HP works in the 190 SL. In combination with the 4-speed manual transmission with fully synchronized gears, the roadster can be moved comfortably and confidently. Since the engine overhaul, the car has only been driven approx. 4,750 km. The tires consist of almost new Vredestein "Spirit Classic" tires (DOT 17/21) on original steel rims with chrome wheel caps and rings. A white wall tire set is also available. The car is presented in a well-kept overall condition with an estimated condition grade of 2 to 2 (according to the Classic Data scheme). Thanks to Austrian historical registration (and valid §57a Pickerl certificate / TÜV), the roadster is immediately ready for stylish trips - be it on winding country roads, at vintage car meetings or as an elegant investment with driving pleasure.
