Seller's comments about 1968' MG MGB
The MGB GT, styled by the renowned Italian design house Pininfarina, was introduced in October 1965 and remains one of the earliest sports hatchbacks to enter volume production. Combining elegant fastback styling with genuine everyday practicality, the GT offered improved aerodynamics over the roadster, a useful 2+2 seating arrangement, generous luggage space and a top speed comfortably exceeding 100mph. Today it stands as one of Britain's most enduring and usable classic sports cars, admired for its timeless design, engaging driving experience and exceptional value in the classic car market. At Milestone Classics we are always searching for exceptional examples, and we are delighted to offer this beautifully presented early MGB GT with overdrive. Cherished for over twenty years by a time-served engineer, this car benefits from a painstaking nut-and-bolt restoration carried out to an impressively high standard. During the rebuild, a completely rust-free replacement bodyshell was sourced from Florida, carefully chosen to match the original early specification without reversing light apertures, preserving the authenticity and character of this desirable model. The finished result is a testament to the previous owner's knowledge, patience and craftsmanship.Finished in its original and ever-elegant Olde English White, the bodywork presents beautifully with an excellent depth of finish, superb panel alignment and the kind of crisp shut lines that are the hallmark of a quality restoration. The brightwork complements the paintwork perfectly, while the chrome wire wheels complete the classic sporting appearance.Mechanically, the car has been restored and maintained with equal attention to detail. The engine and gearbox were inspected and found to be in very good order, with the overdrive and clutch replaced during the restoration. A replacement radiator and heater matrix were fitted together with all new coolant hoses, while the electrical system benefits from a replacement wiring loom, alternator conversion and electronic ignition for improved reliability. The braking system has been comprehensively refurbished with renewed hoses and pipes together with reconditioned wheel cylinders and brake callipers, ensuring confidence-inspiring performance on the road. A stainless steel exhaust provides the unmistakable MGB soundtrack, while numerous seals and rubber components have also been renewed throughout.Inside, the cabin has been restored to the same exacting standards. The seats have been professionally refurbished with new foams and covers, complemented by inertia-reel seat belts and a high-quality replacement carpet set, creating an inviting interior that remains faithful to the original design while offering excellent comfort for touring. On the road this MGB GT performs exactly as it should. It starts immediately, maintains excellent oil pressure and settles into a smooth, characterful idle with no untoward mechanical noises. The gearbox changes cleanly, the overdrive engages precisely, the brakes are strong and reassuring, and all instruments operate correctly. It delivers the wonderfully balanced driving experience that has made the MGB GT such an enduring favourite among classic enthusiasts.More recently, the car has continued to benefit from careful ownership rather than simply being maintained. During the last three years alone, in excess of £6, 000 has been invested, including the replacement of the speedometer, clutch slave cylinder, braking components, alternator, fuel gauge, electronic ignition, choke cable, throttle cable, together with a new windscreen and seals. These improvements further enhance the car's reliability and usability while preserving its originality and character.Accompanying the car is an excellent history file, including charming handwritten mileage records documenting the car's use between MOT tests, reflecting the care and pride taken by its owners over many years. It also benefits from an MOT valid until February 2027 with no advisories, providing additional peace of mind for its next custodian. The days when the MGB GT was regarded as the roadster's lesser sibling have long since passed. Outstanding examples are becoming increasingly sought after, particularly those restored to this standard and supported by such comprehensive history. Beautifully presented, mechanically sorted and ready to be driven and enjoyed, this is an exceptional example that ticks virtually every box.Viewing is strictly by appointment only.
