1969 MGB ROADSTER 1950cc OSELLI STAGE IIHere at The Forge, we know a special MGB when we see one, and this upgraded Roadster – finished in soft Primrose Yellow with black leather piped in yellow – is a cut above. Supplied new to the UK market and restored to an outstanding standard, this is a car built not just to show, but to drive and enjoy. It comes to us from a long-standing customer with an enviable eye for quality.VRX 779H has seen continuous investment and is now running a recently installed 1950cc Oselli Stage 2 lightened and balanced engine – lead-free and built for proper road performance. Paired with a Weber 45 DCOE carb, Oselli inlet manifold, K&N air filter, Maniflow large bore tubular exhaust system, and new clutch, this isn’t your average B. It’s lively, responsive and properly sorted.The restoration story begins in the 1980s, with an invoice from the Potteries MG Centre dated 1988 confirming the car was fully restored and sold in standard specification. MOT certificates throughout the late 80s, 90s and 2000s confirm consistent use. But the real transformation came later – prior to 2017, the car underwent another major restoration and was taken to a show-standard level.The body shell was stripped, assessed and rebuilt with any required panels before being professionally repainted in its correct Primrose shade. Chrome work was renewed, the interior beautifully re-trimmed, and a new hood and chrome wire wheels fitted. More recently, those wires have been replaced by sought-after knock-on Minilights which give the car a purposeful, sporting edge.Underneath, the MGB presents every bit as well as it does up top. The underside is remarkably clean and solid – testament to the quality of the restoration – and mechanically, it’s been brought bang up to date with refreshed braking, new shock absorbers, and of course, the performance-tuned Oselli engine. The gearbox is the later all-synchro type and benefits from overdrive for effortless long-distance motoring.On the road, this MGB drives exactly as it should – eager, poised and full of character. The upgraded 1950cc engine delivers proper torque and a crisp throttle response, while the exhaust note under load adds a lovely edge to the experience. With tight handling, solid ride quality and a smooth gearchange, this is a car that invites you to take the long way home.Visually, the car is exceptional. The bodywork is arrow-straight with a deep shine to the paint, the brightwork is excellent, and the interior feels fresh and comfortable.
