This car was built on 8th Dec 1965 and dispatched on 21st December so left factory in 1965 and registered on 3rd Jan 1966. It is eligible to the pre 1966 Goodwood Revival Lavant bank. It is probably the most genuine early MGB GT with factory overdrive for sale in an unmolested condition. It is also one of the oldest on the road if not the oldest, still with its original and interesting reg number.
Car has been sitting in my garage since 2007. Decided this summer get her out.

I have full owner history. It has always been a local car with the first owner having it for 16 years. The next owner had it until 1991 and the last owner from 1991 up until I purchased it in 2003. During this time it had a couple of minor local owners who kept it for very short time.

The last owner stored it for many years until it was brought back to life by a local garage and sold to me in 2003. I set about a mechanical overhaul before I used the car.
I cannot verify the mileage but it had 800 miles when I purchased so assume 100,800 and is now 103,500.
This is probably the most original early narrow tunnel MGB GT you will find. It is in Tartan red with original chrome wires still with logo on them and red painted underside as she left the factory.
The work I had done when I re-commissioned her was :-
Major service changing all filters.
Change all oils
New flexible brake hoses.
New front callipers
New and front discs and pads /hub bearings
Flush out braking system and refill with fresh brake fluid.
Engine out of car.
Remove sump and check.
Remove cylinder head and check bore wear.
Fit new stage 2 cylinder head. ( still have original will come with car )
Clean out all waterways and back flush radiator.
Fill with fresh coolant inhibitor.
New coolant hoses.
Upgrade distributor to contactless points.
Refit engine with new clutch assembly.
Overhaul clutch cylinder.
New rear road springs.
New rear dampers
Front dampers checked and topped up.
Petrol system flushed out
New aluminium fuel tank fitted.
New fuel pump.
Carburettors stripped and cleaned.
Engine tuned.
Waxoiled car.
New bonnet. ( old one had dent)
New headling,
Halogen head lamp conversion.
Stainless steel exhaust.
Anything we could find mechanically wrong was done.
I then carefully ran her in and did some 3,000 trouble free miles including a lengthy motorway trip where she traveled at easy.

When she was re commissioned this year all she needed was
Service
New coil
4 x new tyres and new tubes.
MOT

This car drives as it should have done in 1966 no rattles, bangs shakes. You cannot remake this sort of feeling.

The car is not a show car just think a very genuine 51 year old car. The original chrome wire wheels are rusty in places. The drivers door has paint peeling off, chrome bumpers are pitted with surface rust, bubbles on both rear wing top finishes and some bubbling to n/s/r wing leading edge. All these were there when I purchased her and have not got any worst in 14 years.
I have the heritage certificate which shows she is fitted with overdrive, chrome wire wheels and the option of a heater!

It is with sad heart I put her up for sale but I have two e types I use so the MG will just go back in my garage for another ten years. She is a great car to drive and she will only go up in value as one of the very first of this great marque. Rare early GT cars in this condition do not come up for sale very often.
Car can be viewed in Chichester. Please leave message on voice mail if I am not around.
