Seller's comments about 1950' MG T-Type

First registered in 1950, this beautifully presented MG TD represents one of Britain's most cherished post-war sports cars. Combining timeless styling, engaging driving dynamics and a fascinating international history, this example has been painstakingly restored to an exceptionally high standard and today offers an opportunity to acquire a TD that is as rewarding to own as it is to drive.
Originally assembled in South Africa, this particular car benefits from several desirable upgrades and refinements including a distinctive honeycomb radiator, stainless steel exhaust system, modified rear crank seal with split oil seal conversion and a converted cylinder head fitted with larger MG TF specification valves. These carefully considered enhancements improve usability and reliability while preserving the character that made the TD such an important model in MG's history.
The car's documented history tells a remarkable story. Following ownership in South Africa, it was purchased through Collecting Cars before passing to A. J. Seitz in June 1982. After enjoying the car for approximately two years, Mr Seitz commenced a comprehensive rebuild, dismantling the vehicle for restoration. The project remained in storage when the family left South Africa in 1992, with the car remaining in component form until it was acquired and shipped to the United Kingdom in 2014.
Upon arrival in Britain, the new owner embarked upon a meticulous ground-up restoration that would ultimately span a decade. During the process, the body was stripped back to reveal its fascinating colour history; beneath its final Ivory finish lay a red repaint and, beneath that, the original factory blue colour scheme in which the car is now beautifully presented. Any deteriorated timber framework was professionally renewed, the chassis was sandblasted and refinished, and the interior was returned to its correct appearance after black vinyl coverings were removed to reveal the original beige upholstery beneath. A complete new trim kit was installed in the correct period colour, while every component was restored, refurbished or renewed as required.
The result is a car that presents to an outstanding standard throughout. Importantly, the restoration was undertaken with integrity and attention to detail, leaving the vehicle free from rust, wood rot and body filler. The bodywork was professionally refinished by an experienced spray painter and retains a superb finish that perfectly complements the elegant lines of the TD. Accompanying the car is a wonderful photographic record documenting the restoration journey from start to finish, providing invaluable evidence of the quality and extent of the work completed.
Adding further depth to the history file are handwritten notes from a previous South African owner, offering a rare and personal insight into the car's earlier life. There is also a detailed account from the first UK registered keeper, together with a comprehensive collection of maintenance invoices, servicing records, purchase invoices and supporting V5 documentation accumulated over the years.
With just three former keepers recorded, this MG has clearly been cherished throughout its life. It is an active member of the MG Owners Club and has participated in numerous shows and events, reflecting both the pride of ownership and the quality of the restoration. Previously sold by Milestone Classics, the car remains a superb example of the marque and is now presented in a condition that can only be described as close to new.
A beautifully restored example with exceptional provenance, extensive documentation and a fascinating South African heritage, this MG TD offers an outstanding opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
