In 1908, John Willys bought the Overland Automotive Division of Standard Wheel Company and in 1912 renamed it Willys-Overland Motor Company and until 1918, became the second-largest producer in the United States. The Willys Company of America made cars all over the world and, although the main factory was in Toledo, Ohio they were also made at Crossley in Manchester for sale in the UK and in Northern Ireland. The Whippet was basically small and light which enabled it to be used on the railways, as they often were in the 1920's.

This original righthand drive model was restored approximately ten years ago to its current colour scheme of white with a black interior and convertible roof. Imported from Australia, period black & white photographs exist in the history file of its time there, as well as its restoration. There are also receipts from the previous owner and an original Operation & Care manual. It is described by the vendor as in good condition throughout. The wooden artillery wheels have clearly been refurbished and a spare rim and tyre can be found to the rear alongside a luggage rack. A practical and handsome pre-war convertible.
