The Packard Caribbean Convertible from 1953 is one of the most exclusive open American luxury vehicles of its time. Only 750 examples of this impressive "full-size" convertible were built - so it is rare to find a true-to-the-original vehicle on the market today. As the top model from the Packard Motor Car Company, the Caribbean embodied prestige, comfort and extravagance. This example has been in Austria (previously Germany) since 2015, is historically registered and has 6 seats. The §57a sticker is valid until July 2027. The overall condition is estimated to be around grade 2 to 3 according to the Classic Data scheme. What should be highlighted is the solid basis with documented investments - very well-restored vehicles of this model now fetch six-figure amounts. Engine & TechnologyUnder the long bonnet, the 5.3 liter flathead in-line eight-cylinder works with around 180 hp, combined with a Carter carburettor and 2-speed automatic transmission - runs smoothly, powerfully and confidently as befits its status. According to the engine number, this is the correct engine (most likely the original engine from the factory) that was found in these models and is within the number range L400000 to L418552. Extensive engine overhaul (investment approx. € 15,000)---- Engine completely dismantled - Oil pump replaced - Connecting rod and main bearings replaced - Crankshaft polished - Batteries replaced (2x 6 volts) - Various seals replaced - Radiator hose replaced - Carburettor seal set replaced, carburettor cleaned - Alternator replaced - Starter replaced - Brake fluid replaced A corresponding invoice history is available and verifiable. Body & appearance Painted in Matador Maroon Metallic (color code U), the car presents itself stylishly and authentically. Paint and trim are in overall good condition. The long body surfaces are straight and solid, the chrome bumpers are also in good condition. The electrically operated light brown top - with an additional hydraulic cylinder to improve function - forms an elegant contrast to the paint, but needs some attention at the top outlets. The Caribbean sits on Coker Classic Wide Whitewall tires (225/75 R15), mounted on standard Kelsey-Hayes chrome spoke rims. The tires were replaced in the summer of 2025 and a wheel alignment was carried out at the same time. Typical and particularly impressive are the fully cut-out rear wheel arches, the continuous side chrome trim and the striking bonnet with a wide, flat hood. At the rear, the Continental spare wheel cover in the steel housing makes a self-confident luxury statement.Equipment The Caribbean was exceptionally well equipped ex works.
