Seller's comments about 1956' Porsche 356 Speedster
This beautiful Speedster is one of the last Pre-A specification cars to leave the factory, built in December of 1955 and despatched to the USA in January of '56. As such it features the early style instruments, curved rocker panels and iconic beehive tail lights. The previous owner, William Benz - a Californian attorney, purchased the Speedster in 1978 and completed a restoration that is documented by a substantial amount of paperwork in the car's history file. He was an active member of the Porsche Club of America and held several posts in the Golden Gate Region including President and Treasurer. The car was continuously registered by him from 1978 to 1999 at which point it was placed into storage for the next 16 years whilst Mr. Benz's attentions turned to a second Speedster which he fitted with a 4-cam Carrera engine. Soon after this Mr. Benz sadly passed away and the car was purchased by us and brought to the UK. Since arriving with us the car the car has been comprehensively serviced, including brake overhaul, new shock absorbers, new tyres etc. More recently the car received a bare metal repaint in its original colour of Ruby Red, as shown on the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, plus new black weather equipment. The bonnet, engine cover and doors all carry the correct, matching number stampings for the car.
