911 CAREER 3.0
The Carrera nomenclature has been associated with one of the toughest street races in the world - The Carrera Panamericana Road Race - an event that created legends for manufacturers and drivers in the world of motorsport.
Today - the Carrera nameplate adorns generations of Porsche, from the 356 to the current lineup. One of the most legendary models in its history is undoubtedly the 911 Carrera 3.0, as it holds a special place in the history of the 911 by combining two Porsche legends.
Since late 1975, the 911 Carrera 3.0 represented the incarnation of the Porsche Carrera presented as the 2.7 Carrera RS and used the 3.0-litre engine in the same die-cast aluminum housing as its legendary stablemate, the Type 930 911 Turbo. In fact, it was the perfect match.
Sold for just two years from 1975 to 1977, the 911 Carrera 3.0 was specifically built between the standard 911 and 911 Turbo, delivering an additional 35hp over the 2.7 911, a slightly wider rear stance and 16” forged alloys. From a technical point of view, the engine is essentially the 911 turbo without a turbocharger, the lightest 6-bolt flywheel from the Carrera RS 2.7, which explains why the Carrera 3.0's performance figures are very similar to the RS.
Worldwide production of the Carrera 3.0 was just 3,687 over the two-year period, with just 1,123 being delivered as Targa models.
In the world of classic cars, the Carrera 3.0 is an extremely interesting vehicle from an investment point of view. It is rare due to the low production volume, it has a fantastic air-cooled engine derived from two of the most legendary 911s in history and with its seductive sound and classic look, a dream for all enthusiasts.
