Seller's comments about 1968' Porsche 912

I’m sad to say that buying a house means my California import 1968 912 is up for sale.

This is a matching numbers car that was restored a little over a year ago by restoration specialists, Creative Coachworks and it wasn’t built to restore, but keep, which is why I went as far with the resto as I did. I know I’ll never buy one as nice as this, or go as far with another car again, so I’ll be really sorry to see it go.

I spent a long time looking for a good 912 in the first place, and found this original California car in the Netherlands three years ago.

It had spent all of its life prior to this in California and was still on a black California plate when I bought it, so hadn’t been driven since import.

When I bought it I discovered it had an issue with the original Solex carbs, so these were replaced with Dellortos. I've also upgraded it to electronic ignition and it now runs superbly.

The original engine has clearly been rebuilt at some point and has great compression. When I had it on the rolling road it was generating 95.7bhp / 97mph.

Not long after I bought it, it was involved in a low speed accident and the drivers’ door, sill and rear wing were damaged. This was all expertly beaten out by Creative Coachworks, and I decided to use the opportunity to have the car taken back to bare metal and repainted.

At this point they found corrosion in the rear parcel shelf, seat pans and rear floor pans. All of this was cut out and replaced with new, correct panels, so there is zero rust or filler on this car. I can provide photos and receipts (for over £20,000) showing all the work that was done.

The body has been painted in the original factory colour of Porsche Blood Orange and it absolutely glows in the sun.

The front bumper is fibre-glass 911S item, with the cut out filled. I prefer the look of this as it gives the front a lowered, more aggressive stance.

All of the rubbers have been replaced with new items throughout.

Whilst all this was being carried out, the original engine was removed and the tin ware was painted in satin black.

The underside has been painted in truck bed liner for a tough, long lasting finish.

The interior has been Dynamated and benefits from a new headliner. The seat and door panels and dash top had been replaced when I bought it.

It has the five-dial dashboard and five-speed dog leg gearbox.

About a month ago it had new front discs, pads and wheel bearings.

The wheels are 4.5-inch and 5.5-inch Flat 4 Fuchs. It has been wound down on the front adjuster to give it a better stance, but it doesn’t bump, rub, scrape or affect how it drives in anyway.

To my mind this is one of the nicest 912s you’re going to find and all it needs is a new home and a caring owner to look after it and enjoy it as much as I have.
The car is safely locked away in Leicester and I’m happy to answer any questions / send pictures / or accommodate any viewings.

Priced fairly at £65,000 – which when you factor in how much you’d pay for a 912 in the condition I bought it, and how much I spent on it is actually right on the money.

An appreciating classic that will brighten up anyone’s garage.
