THE LONG DESCRIPTION:
Deservedly ranked among the world’s finest grand-touring sports cars of the 1980’s, the nine-twenty-eight encapsulates the spirit of Porsche and is an absolute example of their engineering and build quality. In actual fact, many believe the 928 DNA is stronger in the 996/997/991 then that of an air cooled 911!
The 1980-1983 S is my favourite derivative of this mighty and misunderstood sportscar. Why? The answer is quite simple… It is a full-fat 300hp V8 supercar, with all the style and design purity of the original launch model 4.5 including the gorgeous 928-only seats, and the uber-exotic space-age 1970s exterior, but with better brakes, handling and of course - lots more power.
More importantly, all the fuss and complication of the later (S2 on) models is absent enabling the owner to carry out most fault-finding and maintenance tasks with a very basic set of tools. The highly robust Bosch CIS K-Jetronic injection system is without ECUs or complex electronics and the 3-speed automatic gearbox is strong and confidence-inspiring. Speaking of which, that long-legged first gear makes driving a joy – Unlike the stifled later cars which pull away in second gear, the S is highly responsive with immediate power delivery and a great kickdown!
This 928 S is the best I have had the pleasure of owning, it is extremely well-preserved and is in great original condition. It is a genuine low-owner/low-mileage car, which is clearly evident under scrutiny!

The car has been in my possession since early 2016. The log book shows 5 previous keepers but I believe this is a DVLA error during a private plate transfer based on the history they sent to me.

MECHANICALS:
Cambelt Service just completed at DW Performance, Bedford
Brand new Toyo Proxes T1R tyres all round.
Stainless steel brake flexi hoses just fitted.
Air conditioning condenser (radiator) and seals just fitted.
Brand new heavy-duty Bosch battery (OE Specification).
“No expense spared” service in March 2017 using Valvoline VR1 20w50 racing oil with high ZDDP content (as recommended by any 928 specialist). Spare oil included. Service included Bosch WR7DC plugs, new fuel filter, new leads, distributor cap, rotor arm, air filter and fuel filter. At around the same time the car also had a full automatic transmission service including fluid, pan gasket, filter. Shift pressure checked and kickdown cable adjusted correctly. Differential oil also replaced. On top of this the CIS injection system has a full health check and the timing and fuel/air mix was adjusted accordingly. Finally all grounds were cleaned and the throttle cable and linkage was adjusted and lubricated.
Excellent oil pressure: 5 under load and 3 at hot idle. No temperature faults, no oil leaks, no coolant leaks. No strange noises. Fans operate correctly. Gearbox very strong and super smooth with no slipping, clunking, hunting and so on.
Suspension and geometry is excellent. The ride is best described as sharp rather than floaty. Steering is accurate with no play or vibration. The car comes with a brand new set of front lower ball joints and refurbished front lower wishbones however this work is not currently necessary so I'm loathed to intefere with it at this stage. The same goes for the shocks and alignment.
A testament to the health of this car is that it achieved a fantastic 307 horsepower at Noble Motorsports in February 2017 on the dyno. This is 7 horsepower more than the Porsche quoted figure of 300! (Print-Out included)
ELECTRICS (Usually a sore-subject!)
These cars have a reputation for poor electrics. In reality the wiring is very robust and over-engineered just like the rest of the 928. Most issues are usually attributed to poor repairs, corrosion and bad grounds. There are no electrical issues here due to careful servicing and regular use.
Recent work carried out to the electric system includes:
Additional rear ground and engine main ground straps added.
All ground points checked, cleaned and treated.
Fuse box cover complete with fuse/relay chart.
Jump post shield and retaining nut in engine bay present and in good order, protecting the main engine harness connector from contaminants.
All unwanted wiring professionally removed so there are no problematic old immobilisers or left-over 3rd party electronics to worry about! (1980s Piranha alarm/immobiliser still fitted and working perfectly, including remote central locking).
New bulbs all round.
Dashboard bulbs replaced.
AC working and blows ice cold. Refrigerant updated to r134a and AC just serviced with new valves, gas, dye and PAG oil in August 2017. New condenser also fitted at this time with new seals.
Working cruise control.
No HVAC issues, all controls work exactly as they should unlike most 928’s! The automatic temperature control holds its requested temperature with minimal drift and the cockpit is always comfortable regardless of weather conditions.
Electric mirrors, central locking and sunroof all operate smoothly with no issues.
Wiper operation perfect including headlamp washers and the intensive wash system.
All interior lights functioning correctly including the under-bonnet light and glovebox illumination.
Rheostat for instrument cluster brightness attenuation operates smoothly with no issues.
All locks and central locking operate as per original specification with no faults. All locks/ignition work with the same key.
Original PORSCHE CR Blaupunkt radio working perfectly. ChromeLondon Aux interface just fitted. OEM replacement door speakers (German made) also just fitted.
No battery drain issues.
BODYWORK:
Bodywork is in superb order, the car has just benefitted from a full glass out respray (April 2017). This included £1000s worth of genuine Porsche parts (purchased from OPC Leicester, all invoices included) – Every rubber, seal, clip, screw and anything else which bolts onto the outside of the car is BRAND NEW and GENUINE PORSCHE.
I had the car resprayed because the original paint was beginning to show its age and I wanted to freshen it up. There is no previous damage or any other unsavoury secrets. Luckily the 7-page magazine feature shot in April before the paint job proves this and should bring you peace of mind! As you will see, she looked great. (But is even better now!)
All four wheels are newly refurbished and are looking stunning.
The paintwork is in the original colour tint and has been sympathetically applied as per original Porsche specification. This includes stone-chip line and PU coding. All rubbing strips have been removed and painted but are stored ready to be refitted if desired. My opinion is the car looks better without them so I had the holes welded and got rid of them! (Photos available)
Lock surrounds are all very presentable with no chips or damage, as are all window trims.
Front lower chin spoiler present and in very good condition.
All splash guards fitted correctly using brand new galvanised bolts.
All panels are very straight with no dinks/dents or damage. There is NO FILLER in this car.
The panel gaps are mighty-fine, exactly what you’d expect to see on a well sorted 928!
The car has been professionally polished and as you will see in the photos the paintwork is even, clean and healthy with a fantastic lustre.
Glass all round is in good condition, and all rubbers are new. Rear spoiler has no cracks or damage.
No corrosion externally, internally or underneath.
INTERIOR:
The inside of this car is among the finest unrestored 928 interiors of this age I have seen. It is highly original with no significant damage or wear other than natural patina developed over age. The original Porsche cargo net is present and fitted.
Super-soft early style tombstone seats are in great condition with lovely buttery leather and superb worn-in patina with no deformation, rips or damage – They are like your favourite pair of old slippers! The passenger side rear seat has one small tear on the base and may benefit from a minor repair. I like things original so I have not interfered with it.
Electric seat operation is smooth and silent both sides.
Carpets all superb. All are extremely clean with no damage to the backing, including the boot carpet. If you know your 928s you’ll know how rare this is!
No ill-fitting door panels (very common), everything is lovely and sharp looking and the doors shut with a rock-solid thunk as they should
Nothing rattles or squeaks
New Porsche OE gas struts for hood and tailgate fitted at time of paint restoration.
New genuine Porsche hood liner fitted late 2016
Headlining and sunroof motor panel perfect
Indicator/Cruise/Computer/Wash Wipe stalks all have lovely rich unfaded text on them, a good reflection of the general condition of the vehicle.
The interior is clean and dry with no signs of dampness and no unpleasant odour, that said it has the signature 928 scent of rich leather and general 80’s-ness!
The car also has the original tool kit which is FULL and COMPLETE. Jack and sock, safety warning triangle and original OWAFIX gloves present and correct. It even comes with the original spare auxiliary belt (with tag!) and space-saver spare (also with tag amazingly!). I have the instruction manual for the air pump but sadly it is missing.
Also included are a full set of deep-pile tailored over-mats to protect the original carpets.

SERVICE HISTORY:
The service history comes in a lever arch box file and an A4 folder – It’s huge!
Original Porsche service booklet is fully stamped up at the correct intervals.
Thousands of pounds’ worth of receipts, all recent and all genuine Porsche parts (mostly from OPC Leicester).
From 1990 the car was used for just 2-300 miles per year (evident on the MOT certificates) so in spite of relatively little use it was kept roadworthy during this time.
I have personally done around 1400 miles in the past 12 months and every one of them has been great fun!
Most cars tend to have many useless invoices dating from decades ago which is no longer relevant and nothing of particular interest from recent times. This is the opposite! Service history from 1982 onwards is present but the older the car becomes, the more thoroughly documented the servicing and maintenance becomes!
The Porsche service booklet outlines servicing carried out at the correct intervals, but there are also many receipts and invoices included.
I have also kept a personal diary of all work carried out since my ownership which you can have if you want it.
The car has a full MOT and has just passed with no advisories.
IN SUMMARY
PLEASE NOTE, THE PHOTOS SHOW BEFORE AND AFTER RESPRAY(THE "AFTER" PHOTOS SHOW THE CAR WITHOUT SIDE MOULDINGS). I have included both so you can see the condition pre-respray!
On balance this could possibly be the best 928 on the market in the UK in terms of condition and originality against function, mechanical robustness and of course price.
It is quite an upsetting fact that there are lots of very tired, unloved 928s which look good but can easily bite you if you’re not careful - The old saying rings true… “You get what you pay for!”.
This car is ready to be marketed by a specialist garage or used as a fantastic investment opportunity or toy for a private buyer.
Needless to say, viewings are welcome and encouraged. I am based in North West Leicestershire just off the M1, J23.
For more details, please call me, Llewelyn, on 07712 426170 where I’ll be happy to talk you around the car.
To any international buyers, I can say with confidence that you could buy this car and drive it back home to anywhere you desire. It is bulletproof, drives pin-straight and is extremely comfortable on a long journey. The 928 was designed to cross continents, and I’m sure this one would love an excuse to stretch its legs!
With this in mind I’d be happy to meet any prospective buyer at a convenient airport (in the UK) for you to drive it home….
Just one last thing, the price - £19,928
This genuine collector-quality vehicle represents great value in the current market and in my opinion is a sound investment opportunity. There is no doubt I will regret my decision to sell it.
The sale is purely because I no longer have dry storage and do not wish to leave the car out in the elements. Hence I am looking for something more modern which I won’t be so anal about!
Thanks for reading.
