This lot will be auctioned via Classic Car Auctions, The Classic Car Sale at Stoneleigh Park 2024 on Saturday the 28th of September, Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire, CV8 2LG.Renault's innovative 16 introduced the 'hatchback' bodystyle to the mid-size saloon market although the term was not coined until some time laterThis smart example is the oldest surviving R16 in the country and one of around 50 currently active here One of the first registered in the UK 6/ 4/ 1966, it was with its first owner for 18 months. Its second owner used it for ten years then put it in a garage for 35yearsIt was rescued from there in 2013 by members of the Renault Car Club and sympathetically recommissioned retaining the original interior, bodywork, engine and gearbox In 2015 it starred on the Renault stand at the NEC Classic Car Show and in 2020 was featured in the Daily TelegraphWith our vendor for the last four years with four former registered keepers it has covered a, believed genuine, 58, 000 miles from new and the current MOT (no advisories) is valid until December 2024A largely original example of the, once ubiquitous but now very rare, Type 16 in very good condition
