Seller's comments about 1930' Riley 9 Brooklands

1930 Riley Brooklands – The Ex Pemberton-Billing/ Rupert Riley

chassis no. 8070
engine no. 30932
Reg. No. 3W8440 (USA)

On offer is a 1930 Brooklands Riley 9. This Riley with chassis number 8070 was used in America in the 1930s to drive from New York to Los Angeles. This "trip" was controlled from England to promote the Nine (9HP) model series in America. During the trip, Pemberton-Billing/ Ruppert Riley steered the Riley to its destination in less than 6 days. A detailed article of the trip is in the documents.

After this record run, the vehicle stayed in America and was converted into a racing car with a V8 engine. In the 40s / 50s, the vehicle was then used in races in America (there is currently no photo evidence of this).

In 1978 8070 was sold to the Netherlands. A report of the arrival was published in Riley Bulletin No. 100 of 12/ 1980 published.

At the end of the 1980s, 8070 was sold to a Mr. Kramer by the Mercedes Autohaus Lueg in Düsseldorf. This owner used the vehicle at numerous racing events, including the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix on the Nürburgring. At that time, the V8 engine was still installed. Pictures and videos of the deployment are available.

In 1992 an original Riley Brooklands engine with 1100 ccm was installed again at Barrie Gillies in England. After the installation of an identical original engine, the vehicle was used in the Klausen race in 1993.

After this last use in 1993, this Riley was parked in a collection until 2020.

In 2020 this Riley was acquired by the current owner and put back into service. The engine, transmission and the rear axle as well as the entire technology has been completely revised/overhauled. After the restoration, the vehicle was used again in 2022 at the Vintage Meeting on the Nürburgring.

8070 is immediately ready for use. Test drive and viewing is possible by prior arrangement. The vehicle is currently not on our premises, but will be made available for inspection at our premises by arrangement.
