A rare car with a great story. Its a 1938 Singer Bantam 2-door saloon with only two owners from new, and last owner for 52 years. Featured in "The Automoible" magazine November 2020.

Its a great original little car that is eminently usable daily, as it has been regularly used through the last ownership. It is the Bantam Deluxe model which had leather upholstery, sliding sunroof, chrome bumpers and trim, and rear blind. In addition these cars had an overhead cam engine which in the day of side-valves in small saloon was well advanced. The 4 cylinder engine is 972cc rated at 9HP, giving very sprightly performance in its time. The 3-speed gearbox has syncromesh and works exactly as it should. In its time the car was capable of almost 60mph.

The car was very advanced for its time and featured an all-steel body, hydraulic brakes, 12 volt electrics and twin dipping headlights.

The Singer Bantam also had fitted a "flying rooster" mascot on the bonnet, which still remains, and the blue leather seats are still original, the interior is untouched and in good condition. The car all round is in really nice condition for the year, not concourse as you can see from the images. Paintwork is comensurate with age, but suits this era of car perfectly. This Bantam Deluxe is an incredibly original and usuable classic with almost unbelievable provenance. You won't find another like it.

The Automobile magazine drove the car recently to the photoshoot and commented "the Bantam really does pull well for a 1930s light car, and the front seat passenger travels in just as much comfort as The Motor promised" [back in the original 1937 launch road test]
