1963' Sunbeam Rapier Series 3A

This is a rare opportunity to purchase a lovely unmolested Series 3a Convertible in the attractive colour combination of Pearl Grey/Pippin Red with red trim & weather equipment.
There have been just 5 former keepers.

The Rapier was the flagship model of the wonderful cars produced by the Rootes Brothers. The Series 3a is the last & reputed to be the best of the convertible range. Their build quality, innovation & iconic styling place them at the front of the pack. Part of the innovation is the easy to fold away hood that sits flat with the body when lowered. There is also the useful option of "Coupe de Ville" (halfway house) position.

The hardtop version enjoyed much rallying success through the 60s due to their performance & excellent handling characteristics. They boasted 80 bhp enabling a top speed of 90 mph.

This car has 49,896 recorded miles, which we believe to be correct making it one of the lowest mileage cars in existence.
In the history file, there are MOT certs back to 1983 when the recorded mileage was 39,000 meaning that only 10,000 miles have been covered in the subsequent 35 years!

The car sounds raspy, look great, feels tight & drives well.
It is very difficult to find examples in this condition. The paintwork has a superb flat finish with good panel fits & we are not aware of any repairs to the underside, which is in remarkable original condition. This indicates the car has only received light usage & been carefully stored over the past 55 years. As a practical classic, they are a fabulous all-rounder offering a sporty performance, usability, comfort & 60s style. Also, a heater/demister that works efficiently!

Factory fitted extras inc. a heater, overdrive, rev counter & electric clock (not working).
It sits on as new Firestone 165 x 15 tyres & comes complete with hood bag, tonneau cover, original Works Manual & Owners Hand Book & tools. Mot runs to September 2018.
