1966' Volkswagen Camper

This rare 13 window, left hand drive, Type 2 T1 split screen Microbus Deluxe rolled off the production line in Germany on 25th February 1966 for export to the USA, where it was sold in Hartford, Conneticut, where it is believed to have had one owner until being imported to the UK sometime in the late 2000’s. Purchase by its current owner in 2013, a replacement reconditioned 1600 twin port engine was installed the same year and has only completed just over 6, 800 miles in the following 9 years. The van underwent a full restoration over 22 months, completed in July 2016 (all invoices available). While the van has been kept as standard as possible and many original parts remain, it has been fully reupholstered in high quality vinyl, resprayed in Velvet Green and Pearl White (original colours for a 1966 van), fully rewired, treated with an anti-corrosion coating and fitted with an engine bay fire suppressant system.
The van has 5 seats (3 front, 2 rear) with lap belts and a ¾ width, rock & roll bed. It is fitted with curtains and tie backs, as well as boasting an unusual, eye catching wooden roof interior. The interior units, custom built by The Camper Shack, include a Smev twin burner hob and skin/ tap with electric water pump, push to pull shelf/ table, 2 cupboards and 2 drawers, main store cupboard, low level store cupboard, table and table fittings. There is also a Dometic electric fridge, which can be run off the 12 volt leisure battery or via the 240 volt electric hook up.
A thermostatically controlled Propex gas heater has been installed, allowing the van to be used all year round. There is a double USB charging point, 2 x 3 pin sockets and 2 x 12 volt charger points.
The cab is carpeted and boasts the original dashboard, including ashtray, along with a CD/ AM/ FM radio with USB connector and Pioneer speakers front and rear.
The sale price includes a number of accessories, including 2 awnings (1 drive away), windscreen cover, full set of interior window thermo mats, 1 x 2. 75 kg Campingaz bottle (part used), 240 volt electric hook up cable and assorted spares.
