When the GTX 16V was launched in October 1985, the VW Scirocco had already been an old acquaintance from 1981. This sporty version therefore came at the right time to boost sales of the coupé. Until then the Scirocco was powered by the 1800 cm3 with 112 HP which was already not bad. The Scirocco GTX 16V engine develops 139 HP. It is in fact the well-known KR that also made the good times of the Golf. Motorized in this way, the Scirocco GTX 16V coupé surpassed performance thresholds that made 1985 GTIs shiver: more than 200 km/h and less than 30 seconds per 1,000 metres.
