This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, Online Auction - 26th March on Thursday the 26th of March. Background:Introduced in 1967, the Volkswagen Type 2 'Bay Window' represented a significant evolution of the earlier Split Screen Transporter, featuring a single-piece curved windscreen and numerous mechanical improvements. Powered by a rear-mounted air-cooled engine, the Type 2 became synonymous with freedom, travel and a distinctly laid-back lifestyle. By the mid-1970s, the bay window had matured into a highly usable and versatile platform, offered with a range of engine sizes including the desirable 2. 0-litre unit. Camper conversions by specialists such as Westfalia and Devon further enhanced its appeal, ingeniously packaging sleeping accommodation, cooking facilities and storage into a compact footprint. The bay window’s distinctive design, with its large glass area and upright stance, provides excellent visibility and contributes to its unmistakable road presence. Inside, camper conversions are known for their clever use of space, often incorporating sleeping arrangements, storage and basic cooking facilities, making them well suited to extended trips.
