1931 Wolseley Hornet Sports Introduced in 1930, the Wolseley Hornet was the model that effectively launched the ‘Light Six’ genre. In an era when buyers were increasingly drawn to smaller, lighter cars with the refinement of six-cylinder power, the Hornet proved to be perfectly judged. Demand for smooth-running, compact sixes grew rapidly throughout the early 1930s, and Wolseley found itself at the forefront of this movement.Power comes from Wolseley’s overhead-camshaft six-cylinder engine, displacing 1271cc and rated at 12hp. While modest on paper, the engine is notable for its smoothness and flexibility, characteristics that made the Hornet particularly appealing both on the road and in competition. In period, the sporting potential of the Hornet was quickly recognised, and these cars established a strong reputation, rivalling contemporary Singer 9s and MG Midgets in trials and other events. We are delighted to offer what must rank amongst the very best examples of the 1931 Hornet Sports Special. Acquired by the present owner around 12 years ago, the car has been the subject of an extensive mechanical rebuild and sympathetic restoration by a fastidious engineer, with great care taken to preserve the character and integrity of the model. An extensive and detailed record of work undertaken accompanies the car. Due to the volume of documentation, this is too comprehensive to list here, but a full breakdown is available to genuinely interested parties. A supporting CD is also included. In addition, the history file contains numerous period advertisements, historical notes, and a particularly engaging 13-page narrative of the car’s story, written by the owner’s wife, formerly Secretary of the Wolseley Hornet Special Club. Together, these form a fascinating and informative archive that greatly enhances the car’s appeal. This is a delightful pre-war sporting Wolseley, combining charm, usability, and provenance in equal measure - a car that rewards both the enthusiastic driver and the historian.Detailed photographs and video will be updated when she arrives.Register your interest at using the button belowViewings are available strictly by appointment.
