For sale in our Chicago showroom is a stunning 1947 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible. After the war auto manufacturers had to act quick to jump styling ahead after a 3 year hiatus of building vehicles and Cadillac certainly hit the mark with the Series 62. In addition to a lower stance and smooth flowing fenders the '47 Caddy hit the scene with huge chrome bumpers, incredibly detailed trim and enormous chrome grill that demanded a second look. The fascia of this beauty was finished with a classic Cadillac crest and "Flying Lady" hood ornament in an Art Deco style.

The interior of this beauty did not disappoint and featured a gorgeous ivory-colored plastic steering wheel with center Cadillac crest and chrome horn ring, exterior spotlight, easy read gauges, large glove box mounted clock, power front windows, power seat, AM radio with pushbutton selector and a new-for-the-time fresh air control. The windows and top are controlled at the push of a button via the hydraulic system that functions very nicely. It's hard to imagine that in 1947 you could show off your new car with power windows, power seat and a power top.

Under the hood is the 364 Cubic Inch "Monobloc" V8 that featured a crankcase and cylinders cast in a single unit and featured hydraulic valves for additional durability. This design created a smooth and quiet running V8 that was even used in tanks during World War II. Mated to that power plant is a 4-speed "Hydramatic" automatic transmission that shifts quietly and will get this full size luxury yacht up to highway speed without hesitation. Between the classic Cadillac styling, bold chrome trim and smooth running V8 this car is the epitome of what luxury was all about in the 1940's. For added safety a center-mounted brake light was added and after the previous owner became unable to drive a rack and pinion power steering unit was installed so that his wife could take the reins and the two could still attend car shows.
