1925 Hudson Super Six The Hudson Motor Car Company, often called simply Hudson Motors, was founded in 1909. Joseph L. Hudson, owner of the renowned Detroit department store, was the primary investor in the company, created by eight individuals, including Roy Chapin and Howard Coffin, former employees at Olds Motor Works. In the first year, Hudson Motors sold 4,000 of their original four-cylinder models. This represented the highest number of first year sales of any car company to that point, and quickly earned Hudson respect in the American auto market. For consignment, a barn find version of the 1925 Super Six 2-Door Sedan. With it innovative for its time flat 6-cylinder engine, mechanical drum brakes, and 21-inch wood spoked wheels, the performance race, although in its infancy, was on between manufacturers. Sporting a very simple but comfortable interior, the back bench in this car shows the original luxury that may have come with this car. This definitely will be a project for its new owner, but one that in the end may prove profitable as this example is not an oft seen automobile. Exterior With its totally square design passenger compartment, this all steel car with no rust panels, maintains its exterior integrity with very faded black paint, and patina panels and glass. The boxy design continues through the back of the car with a rear mounted trunk, and extra spare tire. A simple bumper frames the bottom back here. Moving to the long dual cowled hood front end, this shows no rust, and has a radiator surround in black topped with a temperature gauge cap, and simple vertical black grille. Shiny trim is at a minimum, only showing on the round headlight bezels on the front and rear lighting and are otherwise encased in black steel. Curved bumpers surrounding the front and rear tires and wheels are attached to either side and have a running board in the center. Big 21-inch wood spoked wheels are on all 4 corners of this car and will need restored. Interior Taking a look at the rear bench will give you an idea of the original interior design and use of fabric. Here we see a large panel tuck and roll pattern broadcloth in green looking much like a comfortable couch. This stretches from side panel to side panel. Up front are dual bucket seats, which have a covering on them, and currently it is not known what is or was underneath, however a look to the rear bench provides a good clue. A very simple curved metal dash has a cluster of gauges in its very center, which have rusted bezels, and also contain a few knobs and pulls. The original steering wheel is fronting the dash. A mixture of wood and metal covers the floors, and carpet has long since been absent from this car. The broadcloth felt headliner presents in gray, and in surprisingly good tight shape, and has an interior light mounted in the center. Drivetrain Assumed to be original, the inline 6-cylinder engine with some surface rust, is seen under the cowled hood. This specs out as a 288.5ci inline 6-cylinder engine, with a 1-barrel carburetor to feed it. A 3-speed manual transmission is on back, and the rear axle setup consists of 4.45 gears. Undercarriage Looking underneath we note some surface rust on the usual suspects, like suspension and some mechanical steel parts. However, there is no structural problems as seen, rockers and body hangers are solid, as is frame. Exhaust system has some surface rust, but no holes. Leaf spring suspension is on all 4s as are mechanical drum brakes. Drive-Ability Unfortunately, this car will not crank or start as it utilizes an actual crank to start, and this appears to be seized. Sadly, no test drive was completed. A buttoned-up barn find if you will, no exterior rust, mostly original steel panel car, with an original back seat to go by when you restore the interior. This is a blank palette for the potential restorer, as these cars were really colorful, and as you proceed through the restoration, your personality can shine throughout, creating your own work of art.
