For sale in our St. Louis showroom is a Hemi Orange 1966 Plymouth Barracuda. The odometer reads 90,420, the actual mileage is unknown, and there is approximately 1,000 on the car since the restoration was complete six years ago. Options for this 1966 Plymouth Barracuda include: AM Radio, Seat Belts, Vinyl Interior, Radial Tires, and Crager SS Chrome Wheels. Originally this 66' Barracuda featured a 273 CID V8, it is now powered by a 360 CID V8 that has been bored and stroked to 408 CID. The original 273 V8 is available with the sale of the car, if desired. This 66' Barracuda is an original Formula S with a 4 speed manual transmission. The transmission and clutch have been built up as well as an upgraded cooling system installed to handle the extra power delivered by the blueprinted 408 V8 engine. The 8 3/4 rear end is believed to house 3.56 gears. The exterior is finished in the classic Hemi Orange base coat/clear coat paint, and features white racing stripes that provide an excellent take on the classic Barracuda. Crager SS chrome wheels take this car back to its racing roots, and match the theme of this car perfectly. This build was inspired by a little known project of Chrysler leaders in 1965. They came together and decided to make 2 special car programs to compete in the 1966 Summer National D/Stock class at the drag strip. One would be the D Dart, and the other would be the Formula S Barracuda. There were an estimated 25 D Darts produced for the strip and no Formula S models were built. The reason for the cancellation was due to the NHRA wanting to put the Hi-Po 273 CID powered Chrysler cars in the C/Stock class where they would be competing against their more powerful big block cousins.
