A dream for the Porsche collector or enthusiast
The 1968 Porsche 912 Coupe by Karmann featured here is finished in the stunning factory color combination of Ossi Blue over a black interior. This particular example was sold new by Tropical Motors in Florida and by the 1970’s was being cared for by a meticulous owner in North Carolina who sparingly drove the vehicle. He even went as far as collecting odometer mileage statements in 1973 and 1979. In 2016 Daniel Schmitt & Co. performed a spectacular no-expense-spared restoration on the vehicle, bringing the car back to virtually like new standards. Having traveled less than 1,000 miles since then, it presents as a freshly restored example with only 60,188 miles on the odometer. This particular 1968 912 is one of the last 10 assembled by Karmann for 1968 and is one of less than 5,600 built. Power is provided by its numbers matching engine and gearbox and with its excellent documentation, this 912 is sure to bring many years of enjoyment to its future caretaker. We’re proud to offer this investment-grade Porsche to the most particular collector or enthusiast who demands nothing but the best. Ready to make an investment that you can actually enjoy? History of the Porsche 912
While it has been suggested that Porsche did not originally intend the 911 to be a replacement for the 356 when the 911 was first shown in 1963 it made the 356 design appear rather dated. Porsche quickly surmised that the new 900 series design would be the successor for the 356, and 356 production halted in 1965. This resulted in a fusion of the 356SC 4-cylinder engine into a 911 body; and thus, the Porsche 912 was created. First offered in the middle of 1965, the 912 Porsche weighed 200 pounds less due to its lighter engine. Some still argue that the 912 is a more balanced and better handling car than the early 911s. The 912 engine benefited from many years of development during 356 production, which made the 912 a very desirable model upon its release. 912 production began during April 1965 with bodies being constructed in house by Porsche and by the coachbuilders at Karmann. Today the Porsche 912 has become quite collectible with early numbers matching examples highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts across the globe.
